iPod nano problems
iPod nano problems
I have 08 g35 premium... iPod: 8gb nano, the one before the latest generation. (the latest one is the square looking one, mine is the skinny tall one)
Anyway, lately I've noticed that if i am listening to the ipod in the car and turn the car off, I'll come back the next morning and the ipod will still be on, although it will be paused. I know it has been on because i'll disconnect it and the battery will be about 1/4 empty. Also I have noticed if I turn the car off, disconnect the ipod, it should turn off after 30 seconds or a minute on its own. It doesn't... the power stays on(not playing but paused) forever. It will turn off after about a minute if I hit 'play' then 'pause'.
I'm not trying to be lazy but I'm just wondering you all are having the same problem. It just sucks that I have to remember to disconnect the ipod when I get home. It can't be good for the life of the ipod if it essentially stays on forever.

Are you playing your iPod just through the headset jack? Then I can see that the 'Pod might not pause.
I have mine (full-size, but should be the same) connected through the dock connector, and as soon as it loses power (shutting down the G), it pauses then switches off.

i think i'm getting the same thing. i've gotten in my g and had the ipod completely drained and unplayable - which is odd, since i leave it connected, and it should charge whenever the car is on.
what's the build date on your g? mine's august 2007 for a 2008 g35x, and the ipod is an ipod photo 60Gb (4th generation).

I have the same gen of nano in my car connected through a pocket dock and I have not had any issues with the ipod losing charge and I leave it connected 95% of the time. Typically I turn off the ipod before shutting the car down but don't always remember to do this. Sounds like the OEM dock leaves the device connected and powered up? Hmmmm.
I've not had any problems at all with the G35's iPod connector and my 4th gen iPod photo or my wife's 5th gen iPod.
I leave my iPod connected to the dock connector sometimes for weeks. I never check to see if it's powering down when I shut the car off, but I assume it is because when I pull it out of the car to sync new music, the iPod is always carrying a full or close to full charge. It has never frozen up on me and I have not had to do anything other than plug and play.

hmm, i wonder if it's a faulty cable, although i noticed it does charge when the car is on? i'm going to keep a closer eye on what's going on with my ipod in the g (i usually keep it hidden in the armrest).

are you sure it is pausing? My ipod does not pause when the car shuts off.. I have a digital dock type cable.. (it shows the station directly on the ipod screen *i forgot the model*) so even when I turn the car off, the ipod continues to play, and wont go off unless I turn it off.
i'm going to test out the pausing thing this afternoon, but do you have a 2008 g, and are you using the supplied infiniti ipod cable? that's my setup.
edit: it seems the ipod won't shut off while connected to the g, it just remains in pause mode indefinitely. while in pause mode, the display stays on, which must wear the ipod's battery out fast. unless someone finds a solution, i'll just have to manually turn off the ipod whenever i'm stopped for a long time (every evening).

I have noticed the same thing with my ipod. It is a 4th or 5th gen 30 gig? Like you I have noticed that the ipod stays on. I don't think it does it every time though. Whatever, I too will now manually turn it off when exiting the car.

This is all news to me. Every time I unplug a cable or headset, the music pauses. I would assume shutting down the car, the iPod would see this like any other cable removal.
I have an iPod touch which I hook into the G using the digital a/v cable (movies look awesome, btw).
When the G shuts down or the cable is unplugged, the iPod pauses.... It does not power off. Are you sure it's supposed to?

it's a different connection for the '07 and '08. the '08 has a dedicated ipod cable in the armrest compartment. i have found the ipod does go into pause mode when the car is stopped, but remains in pause mode without shutting down (i.e., the screen remains active, displaying info). this drains the ipod's battery. i have to manually shut down the ipod while it's in pause mode to preserve it's battery. a little annoying.
can those with the same problem in an '08 report which ipod you are using? - i want to see if the issue affects all versions of ipods. mine's a 4th gen, 60gb ipod photo.

I've got a 2nd gen. nano that does this. I haven't found a fix for this other than manually turning off the ipod.

I have a 30Gig iPod Classic and I have the same problem in my 08 G35S 6MT. In my previous car, a 2005 Maxima, I had one of the things that played the iPod through the Radio, it hooked to the iPod through the bottom connector (not the earphone jack) and plugged into the power outlet. When I turned of the car the ipod turned off. I always had a fully charge iPod whenever I needed to remove it for a plane trip. Now I often have a half charge or less unless I remember to charge it in the house before a trip. This is really annoying. It looks like this is a common problem, but not for everybody. I wonder if it could be related to the cable? I know mine does not always fit snuggly (sp?).
