Auto Record with Music Box question
Auto Record with Music Box question
Folks,
It's been over 2 weeks since I got it, and I'm still learning functions on my '08 G35x. One that is eluding me is the auto record function. I've set it to on, which should record CDs that I insert in the in-dash player.
In fact, it does record them, but they don't seem to show up until the next day or so. Is this normal? What's really happening? Is it that I have to turn off the car and turn it back on before the new CD appears in the Music Box?
Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thats weird, when you record songs from your CD onto your harddrive, its uploaded immediately.
Do you name your CDs and tracks prior to burning them? A good way to find out if you aren't sure is to check your harddrive and play a song, if the song is simple titled (Track 1, Track 2, etc.) then you aren't naming your songs and you probably aren't naming your playlists, they'll all be named the samething "Unknown Album" which may make it difficult to locate the songs you just recorded, especially once you have several songs added.
Most burning software will allow you to edit the song titles and CD names prior to burning. This makes it a lot easier when trying to locate specific playlists on the harddrive. Hope this helps.

Thanks for trying to answer

I can't figure out what's going on. My best guess is that it's "user error," but I don't see what I'm doing wrong.

I don't think Gracenote will work with non-comercial CDs.
To the OP ... Have the music box set to play by album. Then turn the **** on the right to scroll though your albums. It should be there right away.

try turning that function off and do a manual record. A button will appear when you insert a cd giving you an option to record. Once recorded, eject the cd and see if it appears in your playlist. Sorry, I'm only suggesting that because I do not have mine on auto record.
BTW, if you accidentally insert a previously recorded disc (on the music box), will the music box make a duplicate or just will not copy?

Thats strange. I wish I could be of more help but I've never recorded fresh off the shelf CDs.
As for non-commercial CDs, Gracenote can read them if you're using the right burning software that allows you to edit track names, artists, and CD name.

Here is my experience with recording cd's to the music box. It will record and name commercial cd's, however those cd's generally are pre-2007 recordings. I have had a few record and have the names follow, but it is hit and miss. Generally if I buy a new cd, I'll use Roxio and burn a copy with the names. However, Roxio has two Titling options, one for the album name and the other for the artist. The music box, however, only reads whatever is listed in the artist box. So I put the album title and the artist name there. Sometimes the title is too long for the music box to show the entire "sentence", but at least it is something and the song titles are there for each song. There is a total work around using the compact flash slot to get the titles from your computer and then getting the music box to read the flash card and associate the titles with the missing ones, but it seems like a real long, pain in the *** process, so I just do what I said. You can find the work around instructions on the support pages at infiniti under music box.
