Select genre > scroll through A-Z and # to select the letter of the artist > scroll through all the artist starting with that letter > Scroll through the albums > scroll through the songs.

I'll just post it here in case anyone else needs the info.
- I set up iTunes to show all my music, then sorted it by artist.
- Highlight all artists that start with A, right click on them and select "get info".
- Click "yes" to edit multiple items
- Under Genre, change it to "A", check the box to the left of it, and hit ok.
- Repeat for letters B-Z and # (for numbers).
As long as you don't mind losing the original genres, this is the best solution I've seen so far.
