For non-ipod equipped cars

I found this cable on eBay. It uses the iPod base connector so the sound is big and clean. It also has a fused 12 vdc charging connection. All you need is a cigar lighter adapter plug ($6) from Radio Shack. This is ideal as the G35 has a 12 vdc convenience outlet in the center console right next to the AUX audio inputs.

I love your reference to "cigar" lighter!!! I don't smoke cigarettes...never have...but definitely love me a stogie...

Did you hook up the adapter plug? Does it stay clean inside your armrest? Seems like a lot of stuff going on in there. Although I do hate how my ipod is always in need of charging...

just make sure that if you have a newer iPod (i.e. iPhone 3G, or iPod Nano 4th gen) that this contraption uses the USB pins to carry the charge to the phone. The new iPods have gotten rid of the firewire charge pin that most of the older accessories used to charge the iPods.

Not sure what you mean by "clean". The cable is a couple feet long so I made a coil or two with a zip tie to shorten it. I guess it depends on where you want to rest the iPod while in use. The RatShack lighter plug is a little longish, has spring loaded connections and a rinky dink rubber strain relief. I might look for a shorter connector (Philmore 48-785) with screw terminals and a clamp since the power leads are 20 gauge or smaller and look a little fragile. The center console has a slight depression on the forward, left hand edge to allow you to feed the cable out and still close the arm rest cover. I should have stated that I have an older 20 meg (3rd generation?) iPod. I can't really vouch for all iPod variations. I think the eBay ad indicated which versions work.

i've been having this cable for about a year now, but i have the one that has all three RCA's so it carries video pretty clear also. I've been wanting to hard wire it, but haven't found time to hack my navi/hard wire it

The 07+ sedan aux inputs are in the armrest and your ipod has a headphone jack.

All you need are a headphone male to RCA cable. It's like $5 at radio shack.

Then if you want to charge the thing, just buy an ipod car charger.

Did you buy the "apple brand" cable for the video?

I've read that only Apple cables work for video on the newer ipods.

I have the apple cable. I also bought a cigarette lighter usb charger. (has usb female end) so I hook up all the cables inside my armrest and just have the dock sticking out. works on all my ipods and iphone great.

This is exactly what I was trying to avoid. Crappy sound from the headphone jack and multiple cables to hook it all up and charge.
