REALLY fed up with my iPod situation, need suggestions or reviews

ok so i'll start from the beginning....i was unable to find a loaded G35 within 150 miles of my home so i had to buy a base model with no iPod connectivity.

i started out with the peripheral gateway (basically the iSimple re-stickered) and i was unhappy with it from the start. it was complicated to use while driving and the steering wheel controls kinda sucked but they were ok i guess. the sound quality was bad though.

i tried the GROM audio adapter but surprise surprise you have to completely disconnect the satellite radio to use it, and i use my XM radio maybe 90% of the time so it's not worth it to me.

when i installed my parrot bluetooth i ran into trouble because the harness for the PAC audio iPod gateway and the parrot brain piggybacked on each other. this was causing my steering wheel controls not to work at all, also they couldn't physically fit behind my stereo without alot of arranging so i removed the iPod gateway.

fast forward to last week....i order a USA spec PA15-INFI on ebay and hook it up, well i'm having more trouble similar to the PAC gateway. when i'm using the iPod and go back to XM it causes my XM radio not to display info properly (it usually displays the first 5-6 characters of an artist or song title then cuts the rest off) and i cannot skip tracks via the steering wheel.

i am fed up with my options so far. tonight i emailed DICE after i saw they have an infiniti adapter available but there is no info on the page really so i need to see where it hooks up. i need a unit that hooks up at the satellite receiver or has a long enough harness that i can hide it in the glovebox or something.

i also emailed everythingg35 about their kit and just how it works but i don't think i can use my steering wheel controls with theirs either.

does anyone out there have the dice or everythingg35 kit in an 08+ G? any opinions or impressions???

my parrot bluetooth module has an ipod cable on it and sounds great but the screen is so small that its tough for me to see and navigate while driving. i'm considering just using my carputer as my ipod interface and upgrading to a more popular carPC front end like roadrunner or something but i'm reluctant to do that since i can't see my climate control info that way (but i'm working on that for phase 2 of my carputer )

any thoughts, rants, raves???

cheers!

Bob

Dude, whatever you do, I'm watching closely. Having a base G like you have, you are a great source for ideas.

Depending on which iPod you have, have you tried the Parrot to play it Bluetoothily? Just curious to how it works.

Also, very interested in upgrades to the carputer. Good luck.

well i have a 2nd gen iPod touch, i have used the parrot to play it (via the included ipod connector) and it sounds great. i also use the parrot to stream my navigation prompts via bluetooth to the car stereo (which works awesome) and it sounds very good but for my purposes here i want it connected through the stock stereo directly so i can still use the steering wheel volume controls (streaming music over the parrot uses the parrots own volume controls, overriding the factory controls).

i've been goofing off at work this evening (i'm on 3p-11p tonight) and i decided i'm going to still look at my ipod options but im going to forge ahead and probably use the carPC as my main entertainment source, but then i have to figure out how to use the steering wheel controls to skip tracks on the ipod, but i think i have this figured out, i can use the same principle as the advanced ipod headphones that i have which have a "forward", "back" and "play/pause" button built into them. i can use the stock wiring from the steering wheel switch to mimic this (maybe)....i'll have to think about this...and then i can just get a USB XM receiver, but then i have to figure out how to make the steering wheel switch swap channels....man i just keep throwing hurdles at myself lol...

i guess i'll see what dice says when they email me back. RoadRunner CarPC front end has ipod support built in, so i'm looking at that for overall control.

whatever i'm going to do i suppose will minimize the use of the stock system to just displays for gas mileage and HVAC....

just an update from DICE electronics, their site shows an option for infinitis but no price.

The full integration kits for Nissan/Infiniti are actually still in development and will probably not be available until December of 2010. If you’d like me to add your email address to the waiting list I’d be happy to do so.

The kit will be fully compatible with all iPod Touch and iPhone models and it will charge them as well. At this time only the non-Nav 2008 G35 is listed as compatible. However we are still working out the details of the installation and if the kit will support both CDC and SAT mode or just SAT mode. I do not yet know if Satellite would have to be disconnected to use the kit in SAT mode. All of these details will be worked out in about a month and a half.

The standard iPod integration kit will support iPod only but the MediaBridge kit will support USB flash drives.

Best Regards,
