Factory Nav for G without Factory Nav?

First post here, will post more in the intro section, but have a tech question first...

I'm looking to buy an 07 G35x, and wondering if I buy a model without factory nav, can I upgrade it to having a factory nav system? I see on ebay they sell the housing the with nav controls, but I assume I'd also need an additional part for the gps receiver and such, which I've also seen sold on ebay... is this an impossible and expensive undertaking, or is it feasible?

Search around on here, there's a lot of discussion surrounding this question. I believe that upgrading is POSSIBLE, but the cost (around $4000) makes it infeasible.

Check this thread: https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-aud...ternative.html

This is the most realistic alternative that I've seen. There's also the carputer option if you are so inclined.

There are other in-dash options that are out there, but to date, no one has found one that is plug-and-play with the G.

I think that the best option may just be navigation on your phone.

If you have the option of getting one with nav vs. without - get the nav.

I have a droid with google maps, the nav on that is actually decent, and in a pinch it works well. I just really like having factory nav, system. I've had nav in my last 2 cars and would like it in the next.

I read the thread with the garmin alternative, and that seems to work pretty well. I Don't use the nav much so I'd just hide the remote out of the way until I needed it.

The problem is the cost, even used the G's with nav are running a few grand more than ones without.

yeah just get the nav if you can. like txdave said, to upgrade the base model is a pain because the wiring harnesses are so different. it's not a plug and play upgrade like on some cars.

using the garmin GVN brain is a great alternative if you can't get a model with nav. the carputer is doable but has some roadblocks too (which is currently what i'm running).

so yeah, to re-summarize, get the nav lol. if you can't find one with nav (such was my case) then you have options but they won't be as user friendly i suppose, nor will they have that nice look of a stock systems with stock software.
