actually check that, you wont have to interface the power wires to the controller. you could, and disconnect them from the stock harness, but there's no need for an additional voltage source. i guess i need to see what these guys did again to figure out which way is better.

yeah, Im not sure that i feel like setting up a vga or RGB connection at the panel. But do you have a pin-out for the screen so I can find the wires I need and start screwing around?

i dont have the pinout at my fingertips but if you download the shop manual from here the AV section is quite detailed. if you interface using the factory wiring you'll end up tapping the RGB wires at the monitor. if you head over to myG37 one of the members did this and used a simple relay setup to get his computer image on the screen. now if you pick a computer you could easily get one that does a composite over VGA out and use the armrest input, otherwise you'll need to isolate the RGB pins on the VGA connector and connect those to your monitor.

here's the my G37 thread:

You can go my way by adding second monitor and a CarPC to it. The systems are independent. Working more than a year.
Pics are clickable.

Firs time i instaled CarPC here:

... it went great in winter, in summer high temp forced me to find anoter better place. So i reinstaled it.

Stock monitor went up)

aToxic, you make my project look like a turd. i bow to thee.

allright, looks like i'm adding a second monitor this summer!! lol.

ok question time, how much of a pain is the viewing angle? do you find you'd want to have the monitor somewhere else or are you perfectly happy where it is?

and honestly, have you had any close calls (almost hitting someone) because you look up at it? (im not asking to be a jerk but im curious). also does it block the rearview mirror? (that would be an easy fix though i think, i bet you could lower the mirror slightly).

someone over on the mp3car forums did a similar mod to his infiniti fx, which was pretty cool, and another guy relocated the screen to the cupholder area (which i can't afford to lose lol).

nice nice work man. very jealous now lol.

cheers!
Bob

so you extended the wires from the stock screen and put it up there and put the lili in the oem spot correct? If so im not feeling that at all... its very nicely done, don't get me wrong but it must break your neck to look at and when your driving its extremely dangerous.. not to mention that at night it must cause a terrible glare in the rear view mirror

aToxic, i should have remembered you were over on the mp3car forum....here's your thread (RipplingHurst's thread really) where you talked about doing this.

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...-carputer.html

it seems though, when you think about it, having the screen tilted down at the same level of the rearview mirror may not be such a bad place....when it's up flat though i have to agree with zoop...

Perfectly happy with this setup.

It doesn’t block rear mirror and no need to lower it.
You can verify this by looking at the photo. I made it directly from the spot, where drivers viewing angle is.

That was my very first setup and I didn’t like it (not as comfortable as the last one).

How often do you need to read info while you drive from stock monitor?!?! There isn’t much information that need to solve with while you’re at high speeds Not as comfortable as in stock place but easy to read/control. I use CarPC more often.

My second setup was like this (CarPC at the top):

But again I didn’t like it (not as comfortable as the last one).

There is no glare. You will be surprised, but stock monitor runs always at maximum brightness and in "day" mode because of its poor viewing angle. Its easily tested, try to look at your stock monitor from the top .

I made a few posts there. Here is my little thread 2008 - Infiniti G35 x project But there was not much interest in it from the others.

I never thought about that. So other people assumed. The screen can not be tilted down. Its in fixed position and mounted deeper than standard main console assembly.
Maybe this photo in not too dark and can answer questions)

aToxic, am i mistaken or for your second setup did you have both monitors up by the maplight?

im not sure whether i would want the carPC up high or the stock screen....i guess it depends on what i'm using for music. i would likely be better using the carPC...

why didn't you put the monitor in the sunglasses holder so you can flip it up and down? and have a reasonable viewing angle?
