That will be very uncomfortable. For now i have to work only with my eyes and easily read both monitors.

Great project, and seems that it won't cost an arm and a leg... I don't think I want the overhead monitor but swapping out the default monitor for the Lilliput is a great idea.

well don't forget, if you swap the default for the lilliput you can't view cabin temps, fan speeds, efficiency info, XM stats, radio, CD, etc., so you'd need both monitors.

Then I stand corrected; this is complicated business

you can just input the video signal from the stock harness into the second input on the Lilliput monitor but then the touch screen capability on the OEM screen would go bye bye

I don't have a touchscreen (non-Nav) so it's a non-issue, I would swap it out without an afterthought. If I could somehow have the stock harness hooked up to this touchscreen Lilliput and have a CarPC functions at the same time, then we're talkin'. The only way I am doing this is if it's possible to have the stock functions as well as car-PC integrated on one screen in a semi-clean fashion.

Thats not that hard.. all you have to do is tap into the stock harness for the RGB output and use a video controller to convert to composite or vga or hdmi or whatever the lilliput takes..

Gave it another thought and... pfft. Although I would really like to have a touchscreen GPS, auto rear view, HDD storage and all of the goodies on my base G... am too chicken to take on something this complicated. I've gone to mymp3car and it see that to have this work there are many variables and trial-and-error situations which take the degree of expertise, dedication and time commitment I simply don't have. I got the G primarily for the driving experience and it rewards me every time I get behind the wheel; maybe I will have my next car optioned out but right now will enjoy the upgraded speakers and soon-to-be-upgraded low end sound

fair enough.. you have to have a certain mind set to take on a project like a car PC. It talked some background in the field and some ***** to take on the project. Also, The g35 is not the most accommodating dash for it. This means you need some decent fabrication skills too. Before I buy my next car (probably an STI) I will definitely make sure it can accommodate a DD faceplate HAHA

Ok I finally decided what im doing. Im going to use the Space Navigator with the custom software from MP3 car. I will take off the base and integrate it as a joystick into the lid of the cup holder

say it aint so!!! you're gonna delete your cupholder??? lol

what are you going to do for the screen? will you use aToxic's setup?

i highly recommend you use the posi-connect products like i did for doing tapping and adding the wires to the stock harness, they are so easy to use and removable.

i've also been thinking about jumping on the bandwagon and adding the second screen, or i would LOVE to replace the stock screen with a lilliput or something and as suggested pipe the stock RGB signal into it, then have a soft button on the screen to toggle between the two. or better yet do a splitscreen view.... maybe this summer once i pay off some bills....

I cant go with that setup because I have nav (touchscreen) Im just going to use the stock screen. And no im not deleting the cup holder, im just going to take the plastic piece off front the bottom of the lid, screw on the space navigator, run the wire through the hinge, and put the cover back on..

given the way the cupholder opens though i suspect you'll no longer be able to use it if you attach the space navigator...or maybe im misunderstanding how you're doing it. either way if you head over to mp3car.com (which you might have already done) there are a bunch of resources there for using that peripheral.

as for me...well...i'm not sure what the hell i want to do now. im still thinking about moving the stock screen to the sunglass holder, which would be easy enough and i'd *possibly motorize it. then i could run my xm and fm radio through the computer. leaving the stock display for temperature readouts only. alot to think about between now and then. too bad the hvac info doesn't display on the info screen in the instrument cluster!!
