Jbl ms-8

Anyone installed this in their G with the stock bose system? I am wondering if the $600 price tag is worth it?

Performance auto and sound just did a review recently on the bose system in a newer audi.

The reviews were very positive and it created a near high quality sound Q out of the stock set up. it uses headphone mics to create the perfect imagining to the driver during set up...very high tech.

I would like to use it but for audiophiles, replacement of the stock paper speakers are a must and upgrading the headunit...

so, maybe if it was my only option.

I plan to implement one of these units in the Bose Studio on wheels application. I have followed the development of the unit on a thread over at DIYMA, and in fact, one of the deciding factors between a G35 and M35 was the layout of the doors seemed a better platform for a really nice system.

I plan to implement the unit first with the stock speakers, except with a different sub. I am waiting for the release of the latest Stereo Integrity sub which I think I can mount in the stock location as it only requires a .50 cu. ft. enclosure. I also have an enclosure design that I want to try that is extremely light weight. Depending on how good the result is of that approach, I may change out the speakers later, and/or supplement with additional amps.

One reason I like this unit is it will allow the ability to integrate my Iphone since it accepts a line level input (and the 2007 doesn't have an Ipod interface) and I can utilize apple lossless files as a source. I am considering a NuForce unit to provide a better D/A conversion, though actually the Iphone headphone-out tests out pretty well. My goal will be to have an absolutely stock appearance with studio quality sound. Hope to have the MS-8 in about a month. My goal is to implement the system but also document the process to serve as a reference for others that want to mod the system.

Exactly what I was looking for/thinking of doing as well. I unfortunately do not access DIYMA as much so please document your build thread here on driver. Thank you.

MS8 on the way

My MS8 is on the way.

I plan the upgrade to the Bose system in several different phases:

Upgrade using only the MS8, and stock speakers otherwise.

Upgrade the tweeters.

Add subwoofer/amp to stock system.

Change out all stock drivers and go to aftermarket amps (only stock head unit remaining)

I plan to document here and/or at the DIYMA site.

Should be fun, especially finding the time given the overtime I'm working.
