Hey man,

Welcome to the forum. You're gonna love it. Quick note, the search function is really good. Here's a couple of threads that I found pretty easily. You might want to try that before starting a new thread next time.

https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-aud...nav-model.html
https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-aud...ternative.html

You'll see references to a "forbidden mod" in those threads. That's a modification that allows video to be shown on the screen when not in park and with the parking brake not engaged. Discussion of that mod and how to do it are not allowed on this forum and will get this thread deleted.

Again, welcome to the forum. What kind of G did you get (other than a 2007)?

welcome aboard!

most of the smaller gps units (if not all) do not have a tv out (i looked at this alot since that was my first idea too). the garmin gvn53 or the carputer (like mine) are really your only options.

if you have any questions let us know!

Bob

im having trouble determining if they will work but ill double check all it says is "various interfaces for LCDs" which doesn't help....the issue is that even if they do work, usually cheap chinese boxes like that have crappy graphics and cannot be updated so you may end up being unhappy you spent the money.

as for prices, the garmin GVN units are pricey for new ones (i've seen them from 400-500 bucks) but you may find an older, used one for cheap on ebay....there's a member here named infinitjazz who just set up his phone to be used on the main LCD as a navi system so he may sell his older GVN.

the carputer can be as cheap or expensive as you want....maybe $300-500 easy depending on what features you need and how handy you are.

personally, and this is just my opinion, i would stay away from those cheap asian boxes (and any other cheap american/german/mexican/taiwanese ones! lol). what kind of phone do you have? maybe you can hook it up to the LCD.

and honestly if you want the asian box go for it, don't let our opinions stop you from trying something new but i just think you'll be disappointed.

you could jailbreak your phone and use a mirroring app to output google maps or another nav program to the lcd if you wanted....it would be cheaper than doing a computer or anything else. check out what this guy did:

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...ncredible.html

and pm infinitjazz if you want, to see if he is going to sell his GVN53 since he set up his phone as the navi. if he sells his older garmin unit for cheap it may be worth it to you.
