Is it possible to pass a thicker cable out from the cup holder area and still close?

Hey guys, I took an old palm pilot dock and gutted it out and fitted it with an extension cable. Then I put it in my cup holder area (I wanted it out of sight so no one would break into my car thinking there is something valuable inside).

I would like to pass the cable out from my cup holder area into the cabin so that I can tuck it to the side of the front seats out of sight and connect it to the ipod integration cable that I will have hanging out from under the arm rest (also tucked out of view). If I could run the cable directly into the armrest area, that would work fine too...but not worth it if it would be significantly more difficult.

I'd like to do this as neatly as possible so that if I have to sell the car in the future there isn't anything that the buyer can complain about (ie. no massive holes, etc in visible areas).

Anyone have any ideas? I would LOVE to get this done...I've been fiddling with docking ideas all week.

I attached some pictures below, but I am thinking about making a black cover on top to make it look neater with just an entry point for the iphone. Looks a bit messy now.

Oh, and this (scrolll to the bottom):

Is exactly what I want to do in terms of wiring the cables from the cup holder area to the arm rest. I just can't find a DIY for how to do it on an 08 G35 sedan.

Really? I'd think that if I could remove the center console like in the link in my second post above, I'd be able to do the same thing and cut a small slit in the side of the cup holder and arm rest area to run the wires through.

So I found the service manual that has some instructions, but I never did anything like this (except years ago when I was in high school putting in a enw head unit into a toyota corolla). So I'm a bit nervous (don't wanna screw up my car).

Attached is print screen of the manual page I have two questions about:

1) The first step is to place the shifter into drive and remove the ****. I assume my car is off and it has to have the parking break on to do this? Are there any precautions I should take?

2) I'm not sure what it means to "remove the metal clips and the pawls"--I'm not sure exactly what these look like and what the best method of removing them would be without snapping them. I remember when I was taking off the dash from my old corolla, it was on pressure pins, as was the door. So carefully sliding a flathead screw driver behind it and prying worked fine (although I think I damaged a pressure pin or two on the door back then).

Can someone please walk me through this? Thanks!

i3eezenotch - if you follow these DIYs it will show you how to remove the console:

https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-diy...d-removal.html

https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-diy...r-removal.html

there are other ones on here, most of them right in the DIY section on this forum. also, if you just google it there are plenty of other G sites out there with great pictorials.

cheers!

Wow, thanks so much Bob! I was googling a lot and didn't find it--that's exactly what I needed.

Anyone know what would be a good tool to neatly cut a rectangle in the plastic cup holder to pass the cable through?

hmm.....honestly if you need to cut a dremel is usually the best tool for this application. it will make clean cuts very quickly. in fact, i need to buy a new one.
