google maps for non-nav bose G35

I tried to integrate a GPS into my G35 sedan last year, but I was eventually frustrated by failuire. The details are here:

https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-aud...av-sedans.html

Now I want to link an ipad to the G35 non-nav bose system. I think this has been explored a little already. I am impressed by Google Maps on the iphone and ipad. Last week, I was in a rental car. We had a garmin gps and an iphone. The Google map on the iphone was much better. So, I think I can have a good nav in my car with a dedicate ipad. The ipad can also serve as the ipod music center for the car. This is what else I think I need.

Scosche charging adapter
USB fever 5-in-1 connection kit for ipad
Composite cable

I would rather not purchase 3g service for the ipad. I think the ipad gps chip can keep google maps running. I would run the video through the aux input. Has anyone figured out how to allow the radio to play while the aux video is in use? And yes, I know about the aux restrictions when the vehicle is in motion.

You can't have the radio playing with the aux on at the same time using the OEM inputs. If you install something like a PAC VCI-NIS2 you can have a separate image, which is what I use for my carputer input. I am considering transitioning to a jailbroken iPad also so I can use a mimics panel for it to control the touchscreen. Just more money to shell out lol.

Do you mean non-touchscreen?

I believe a non-nav car has a non-touch screen, but maybe I didn't understand. Anyway, keep us informed!

Correct, the non-nav is a non-touchscreen but I installed my own touchscreen overlay. There is also a company that make a "mimic panel" to control jailbroken iDevices....it's pricey but cool...

Can you please elaborate on what using "PAC VCI-NIS2" will do exactly? I am a bit confused even though i looked that product up.

Well the PAC is a unit that interfaces with the screen in your car and gives you two extra video inputs. One automatically comes on when the car is put in reverse (so that's best used for a backup camera) the second can be turned on via the included toggle switch, so that's good for a carputer or gps or something. It requires no cutting of the stock harness.

So something like this with multiple video inputs would be ideal?

sorry for the delay, i'm not on here much lately. that monitor would be good for a second monitor install but keep in mind it won't take the place of your stock LCD screen. replacing that with an aftermarket monitor is something that has proven very difficult to do thus far. one member on another forum had it done by an installer but will not divulge their secrets.
