Stock Sub, aftermarket amp

I just bought a Rockford Fosgate PBR300. Its a tiny 1-ohm capable amp.

Has anyone ever hooked an aftermarket amp to the stock subwoofer?

I am not looking to bass my ***** off, just a bit more sound that's all.

I have searched over an hour for this specific situation.

That is absolutely unnecessary. There is nothing good to comefrom hooking up a 300w amp to a Bose stock woofer. You will blow it, it will sound like garbage, and it will be too much effort and money for nothing positive to come.

The amp is going in with the intent of a sub box that I can take in and out as I wish.

I figuring I could try and see what the Bose sub sounds like ...with all the gains turned down of course.

Good initiative, bad judgement. If you're going to put another Sub in then great. If you're seriously going to hook a non-Bose amp to a Bose speaker....then all to you, and hopefully you don't regret it.

i hear ya..but I already listened to the the radio without it hooked up...its ok.
It barely produces a low end that accomidates the fronts. Most of the bass is made by the fronts.

Technically, none of the Bose speakers produce any bass. What you are referring to as bass is actually called Mid range. To produce bass frequency a 10" woofer or larger is usually a prerequisite.

what on earth are you thinking? If that was an opinion I would understand, but you predeeded with the word "technically" which should be followed by something factual.

Sub Bass is below 60 hz.
Bass is around 60 to 250 hz.
Mid range is 250 to 2000 hz

Even if its one decibel within the bass range....the Bose system puts out bass.

I can break out my decibel meter, but it would be a waste my time arguing this.

The reason that the door speakers are referred to as component speakers, not subwoofer & tweeters. But you know what you're doing, that's why you're hooking up an after market amp to a stock Bose speaker, outside its range & rating.

Btw attempting to reproduce specific frequencies is different from producing frequencies. But it sounds like you know what you're doing. You should probably get a 15" and power it off of your pre-amp

My credentials encompass the fact that: I'm not dumb enough to make a thread about hooking an aftermarket higher powered amplifier up to a factory Bose speaker....oh, and common sense

I hope your Aerospace company doesn't see this thread, because if you lose your job your G might have to be sold, possibly to an unsuspecting person who ends up with a blown Bose stereo

vaJnina, I can talk about my work in limited detail. I will not be fired and work at KFC like yourself.

Will it blow the woofer? yes if you apply too much power, but that was not my argument.
I hooked up the woofer enjoyed over 30 minutes of more powerful bass before shutting it down.

I do not plan on running this setup, it was just curiosity of mine to see how well the OEM sub sounds.

Anyway here is a super crappy video my apologies I am not a Professional like vaJNINJA.
Also excuse the language and yes I said "gains" that is the Hispanic in myself. I throw in unnecessary 's'.
