AC stuck on. Center console won't work?

Hey Guys,

I drive a 2007 Infiniti G35X. This afternoon I started my car up and the AC turned on (it wasn't on when I shut it off) but there were no lights on in the center console controls. On the center console screen it started up with the Infiniti logo animation but stopped there and froze on that. I tried turning the AC off but it wouldn't do anything. I pressed buttons to see if something was stuck and causing it to freeze, none were. Nothing responded for the audio when I hit any of the buttons. I got eject and put in a CD but nothing would happen. The source button, phone button, voice control, and enter select button doesn't work on the steering wheel. Everything else in the car works. I have been noticing for the past couple months though it has taken some time for the maps to load up when I start the car.

Is there anything anyone knows about this problem? Is this something that I can fix myself?

I attached a photo of the center console after start up (the AC is on but no lights).

Thanks Andrew

Is it still doing it, or was it a one time thing that cleared up after cycling power?

It is still doing it I have cycled power many times with various times in between. Ranging from right away to a few hours between each start up.

Do you think it is the BCM or the head unit since the rest of the electrical components works?

No, on second look, I think you're thinking on this is actually better. It does appear that everything that's acting up is centralized in and around, or passing through, the AV system, so it does seem a much more likely suspect than the BCM here. It's pretty dry reading, but if you're up to it, here is the factory service manual:
http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/G35/Sedan/2007_G35_Sedan/
The "AV" chapter cover the head unit, and the "HAC" chapter covers the air conditioning control.

I will read it. Anything to avoid going to a dealer. Thanks!

I hear you. The sad part is that the dealer has the Consult system that will easily probe and diagnose the AV system. It's tied the main CAN bus, so it is quite good at it. If you get your back to the wall, you could consider just paying a dealer (a Nissan should work and be cheaper) to do the troubleshooting (an hour?) with their computer and and give you the diagnosis. Then you can see to swapping whatever parts are needed yourself. Lots of good used parts available for these cars now.

Have you checked your fuses yet? It may very well be the BCM but it's always worth taking a look.

I thought the bcm didn't control the boot sequence for the stereo but I could be wrong. I have to read the article vqsmile posted.

I did check the Fuses they were all good. I replaced all the ones for the AV system just in case no dice.

I am having the same problem right now, and I really don’t know how to fix it, did you ever figure it out?

I bought a used console from an online wrecker. Cost me $90 off eBay. Swapped it in about an hour. Works perfectly.

These consoles go sometimes so better to replace them.
