Sport Tire option question?

I know that the sport comes with 225/50/18 front and 245/45/18 in the rear, bit how does one know what other size tires will fit on said wheel(rim).

What I would like to do is keep the stock wheels but just get some lower profile tires if they are avaiable. I thought some one mentioned a while back that the 245's would fit all the way around on the stock sport setup.

thanks for any help.

The stock sport rims are 18x7.5 (F) and 18x8.5 (R). Go to Tirerack.com and check the specs of a tire (e.g. the stock RE050A's) -- each size that the tire comes in will be listed along with the recommended rim width for that particualr size.

doing this will mess with your gearing and can potentially affect the ABS effectiveness (it is tuned for a specific tire diameter). proceed with caution.

KDG35,

I just did some checking on The Tire Rack myself, and it looks like 245/45/18 tires have a rim width range of 7.5 - 9 inches. Note that I only looked at the Bridgestone Pole Position and Michelin Pilot A/S, so you would need to verify the rim width range for whatever tire you are interested in purchasing.

This seems to work for the G35 Sport since the front and rear rims are 18 X 7.5 and 18 X 8.5, respectively. However, my question now is whether there is enough clearance in the front fender wells for 245/45/18's instead of the stock 225/50/18's?.

Any information will help, since when I replace my OEM tires, I would like to go with the same size all around using the stock rims.

Thanks.

225/50/18
diameter= 26.86 in.

245/45/18
diameter= 26.68 in.

difference in diameter= -0.177

It will fit without any problems.

There will be enough clearance. I was running 255/40/18 on 8.5 x 18 rims all around , now I am running 245/45/18 on 8.5 rims f and r. Absolutely no problems at all.
