How do I make a 2007+ G35x handle like a sports car? (Wheels, tires, springs, shocks)

I need to make a 2007+ G35 handle like a sports car.

Whats the largest wheels and tires I can run on a G35x?

What "total package" has been proven to work to improve the suspension? (shocks & springs)

I'm looking to make the G35x handle like an Audi S4.

Thanks in advance.

Are you about to have a "spirited" ride with an S4 for money or something? This is the 2nd time I've seen you post about this.

GEE35X...your comment almost made me spit my beer out...totally exactly what I was thinking...

I am buying a AWD/automatic sedan to replace my 2007 Corvette as a daily driver.

I am afraid of owning an Audi because of the cost and lack of reliabiliy.
I LOVE the new G35x and want to make it perform as close to the S4 4.2 V8 as possible.

step 1 - Sell G35
step 2 - Buy RS4 (S4 is not that spectacular)
step 3- Go to infiniti and buy complete G35 badge set
step 4 - Strip audi badges
step 5 - install infiniti badges
step 6 - earn respect from ricer community for excellent car 'mis-badging' technique

tada - jks

The OP's comments about wanting to enhance the 2007 G35x handling characteristics to Audi S4 standards give an understandable goal. The guy is not an idiot, he could have sought a comparison to his Corvette... I don't get the point of the "witty" comments

So, since this is the Tech Section, does anyone have constructive, technical advice for improving handling for the 2007 G35x and/or know what the largest wheels that may be fitted...?

Thanks

well whenever you want to make a car handle like another car, the goal typically is a little difficult to attain.

Without getting overrly invasive, all you can really do is change the springs and tires, and all this will likely do is make it handle like a stiff g35x with quite harsh road manners.

There is a magnitude of variables that you cannot change in a car, that defines how it drives versus another car ... say an s4, including :

1) weight
2) weght distribution
3) suspension geometry
4) engineering of the all wheel drive system and how the computers manage it (big one in these types of cars)
5) steering ratio and rack type
6) track of the car
7) wheelbase of the car
5) gearing of the car and how the power is matched to all of the above
6) brake force/distribution
8) unsprung weight in the car.

and it kinda keeps going... and this is what really will define the feeling/handling of a car. Changing the tires and wheels will modify the thresholds in some departments, but the core structure will be still there.

I think the largest wheels I've seen were 275 in the back and 245 up front on a 20 inch rim.
remeber big wheels = more unsprung weight which makes a shocking difference in all aspects of performance. I would stick to no more than 18's or 19's ~255 in track width in back and 235 in front.

I'm looking for the largest wheels ans tires that will fit the G35x.
Next, I'm looking for a PROVEN spring or Spring/Shock combination that will decrease body roll and improve performance.

I drove the 08 RS4 today.
If I cannot improve the G35x,
I actually will buy the Audi.

Thanks for any technical advice.
Hopefully someone here knows what they are talking about and can help me.

Would you even consider the 2008 E92 M3?

If I had my choice between the G35X and an RS4 it would be the Audi.
The RS4 is almost double the money, so I could never afford that.
Bang for the buck you cannot beat the G35

Why would you compare a RS4 to a G35X... G35X should be compared to an A4 (not even S4 in terms of price and the package as a whole)

ALL I want to do is make a G35x handle like a S4.

Is that too much to ask?

We used to get our P.O.S. 1986 Mustangs to handle with wheels, tires, springs, and shocks.......
Why can't we improve the G35x?
