Tire sizes/ fitment...

Hello all. I have a question about tire sizes as I don't know much about this topic. I have the '07 G35S with the staggered tires fitment. The original sizes offer little choices. I was wondering if there is an advantage/ disadvantage of having the rear tire a lot wider than the front tires. I was looking at possibly 225/45/18 front & 255/45/18 rear. Is the rear too wide, or should I stick with the original 245?

im going 275 in the rear. u get better traction with a wider summer. Also you get better curb rash protection.
Im selling the stock OEM set of tires for the G35S, they only have 400 miles on them if ur interested.

Increasing rear tire width won't do anything bad per se, but the car will understeer a bit more as the rear will be more planted. 255-45-18 may also have a slightly negative impact on acceleration because of increased weight and taller gearing (255-45-18 tires are taller than 245-45-18s).

If you want to stick with 225s up front, you should stay with the stock 225-50-18. Going to a 225-45-18 would make the front tires shorter which will make the front wheel well gap look even bigger than it is. Paired with the taller 255-45-18, your car will be raked forward with the back end looking a bit raised and the front end dropped.

If you want to have more tire size choices, I'd recommend going up to 19" rims/tires. You can then run the popular staggered 245-40-19 and 275-35-19 or just run 245-40-19 all around.

Thanks AlterZgo for the info. Really appreciated. 225/50/18 will only allow me the choice of the stock Potenzas or Goodyear Eagles. Would you suggest any other sizes since I intend on staying with the 18" rims? 245/45/18 aren't as hard to find.

Quite a few are going w/ 225/45/18fronts and 245/45/18rears without problems.

im running 225/45 front and 245/45 rear and i haven't noticed any changes in handling, the difference between 225/45 and 225/50 isn't all that much
