nitrogen tires

I havent seen much talk about this.

Do you have to go to the dealeer to have them filled, or can you just put regular air in them?

The nitrogen is the "air" that is in the tires, not the tires themselves. If you need to add air, then yes, you can just use regular air.

When I've got my car it came with Nitrogen filled. I check my tire pressure once a week. I never had to pump in air yet but if I have to I can go to the dealer and they pump in anytime for free or if emergency I would just put some air in it. Air is full of Nitrogen too. It is just not pure. 70+% nitrogen and 20% oxygen and the rest is other garbage. Of course it is different at see level or higher places. But you get the point around 70%.

The nitro has been great for not leaking and showing less psi variation across temperatures. It was free with my last set of tires. Unless you're running a timed track event where every .01 sec counts then there's no reason to waste your money. Seriously, spend it on something worthwhile.

The value of the nitrogen comes from the fact that it's dry (~zero moisture content). This is what gives it superior temperature stability compared to regular "air." A dry mixture would work essentially the same. Dry nitrogen is just really cheap compared to expense of a really good air dryer for a compressor.

i honestly haven't seen any benefits what so ever from nitrogen in my tires in fact the three vehicles in my family that have gotten nitrogen lost exactly 10psi in two months. since then i have just filled up the tires with normal air. from what i have heard the only people that believe in this whole nitrogen thing are the guys that are making money off of it a.k.a writers over at your local tire place they'll give ya the whole gas mileage thing, the smooth ride. a couple of my buddies that work at dealerships as techs say their nitro equipment is tucked in the back of the storage room (and this is in one of the biggest bmw dealerships in nj) so go figure...
