Why am I getting a low tire pressure warning light.?

I bought my brand new G end of August 2008 and mainly use it as a weekend car. Currently, I only have around 1300 miles. Today I decided to take it out in the freezing cold/snow weather and left it outside for a few hours. I came back, started the car, and got the low tire pressure warning light. Anyone know why? Is this due to it being out in the cold? With such low miles, this warning definitely shouldn't be happening. Thanks!

It's possible that it's just cold, does it go away after you drive around the the tires and the air inside warm up? If not Bring it back to the dealer if there is a leak or something wrong with the sensor they'll have to fix it. Well unless you popped your tire i guess.

Have you checked the tire pressure? That would be the first thing you should do. Put it to 35 psi and drive it for a few minutes it should go off after a few minutes driving.

I think I get that warning twice a year - usually the morning after the first cold snap. So I go and fill up the tires and never have that problem again.

Molecules contract when its cold, expand when its warm. This would include air molecules. In the cold, tire pressure drops, when its hot, tire pressure increases.

Your low tire pressure light is on because your tires do, in fact, have low tire pressure.

Just fill it up a few psi and you're good to go. How many miles you have doesn't have anything to do with it.

You have the air in it from August. You have to take all the air out and put fresh in. LOL

I had the EXACT problem 2 weeks ago after the 1st cold snap here in NY. The tires are supposed to be at 33psi. The warning light came on and when I checked the tires they were all down to 28psi. I brought them all up to 33psi. The light went out after driving a couple of miles....

I've seen a loss of tire pressure because of the cold, but although everything expands in heat, I've never seen tire pressure go back up because the tires warmed up...

Spare Tire Pressure?

The other night when it was snowing here in Houston, (YES, you read that right), my TPMS light came on. The next morning, I checked my pressures and all four tires were running ~30psi. I brought the pressures back up to 35psi all around. I've been running on them about 5 days now and the TPMS light continues stay on. So tonight when I got home I checked the spare tire pressure and it about 29 psi. Is this too low?

What is the recommended spare tire pressure?

Can the spare tire cause the TPMS warning light stay on?

it says right on the tire to keep the spare at 60psi so i would say 29 is way too low. the spare is not hooked up to the system, and even mounted, is not connected to the TPMS

This happened to me too about a year ago. If the light is not going off you need to take it in, the TPMS sensor may be bad.

Probably just cold, mine always gets low when the temp really drops. I filled mine to 40 PSI when it was like 20 degrees outside, hopefully they're not overinflated when I arrive in california this weekend lol.
