Urgent Tire Question

My stock tires are pretty much done

I have an 07 sport sedan

I was wondering If I could replace them with 225/45/28 instead of 225/50/18 being that the 45 profiles are more easily available and are much cheaper. pls advise ! thanks++

oh and I was talking abt the front tires of course

Thumbs down

I don't know man, that's almost 1" diameter decrease. The VDC may not like that. Better wait until someone replies who actually has tried it and confirms no slip sensor activation. I am only seeing a $20-$50 difference per tire at Tire Rack. I say pony up and get the correct size if cost is the only incentive.

Most people go with 235/50/18 if they want a different size with more options.

I have 225/45 snows on my OE wheels and have no VDC issues at all.

I'll bet you changed all four tires at the same time.

He's talking about just the fronts, which will leave a smaller rotating tire in the front with the stock diameter in the back. VDC may not like that.

235/50/18 is only a 1.47% and .9 mph slower difference and opens up alot of options on tires. 225/45/18 is a 3.28% and 2 mph faster. 235/50's are a better choice.

I bet I didnt.

I have 225/45's up front and 245/45's in the rear since I have staggered sport wheels.

I would suggest you come up with a plan for this, tires are consumables, you can plan on them wearing out. Your fronts didn't become "urgent" overnight, so decide what you want to have at both ends right now so that in the future, everything matches up.

I wouldn't put on little tires in front when there are plenty of choices in 235/50, which mates up great to 255/45.

thanks for the advise all of you

I decided to go with the 225/45/18 and it drives the same as well as has no vdc issues. the tires were almost half as much as the 225/50/18's

There is a "little" more of a gap between the fenders naturally but nothing too noticable.

Neal, I would have gone with the 235/50 but I already replaced the rear with a stock size 245/45 6 months ago so I wanted to keep the same ratio.

Anyways for any1 else thinking of the 45 profile for the front, its pretty much the same ride and loook

thanks
