The OEM Bridgestone RE050's are good tires, but they are soft and don't last very long. I got only 21,000 miles on my set. I got about the same mileage from the Goodyear Eagle F1's that replaced my original Bridgestones. The Goodyear's were just about the worst tires I have ever owned. They wore out prematurely (the fronts were cupped), and were so noisy, it was like I was piloting a locomotive!

Before replacing the Goodyear's, I did a lot of research on different tire sizes and tire brands. I finally decided on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus'. Since they don't come in the OEM size (front), I went with 235/50-18 in the front and 255/45-18 in the rear. I chose these sizes based on recommendations in this forum, and the fact that the overall diameter of these sizes was essentially the same as the OEM sizes. As a result, there is a minimal impact to your speedometer (it reads approximately 1.3% slower). Also, there was no adverse effect on the VDC or in my case the 4-Wheel Active Steering.

I am hoping that these tires will perform well. I have owned two sets (on my 2004 Acura TL - in both cases I got about 35-35K miles out of them)
before and was very pleased overall with their performance.

So far these tires are performing well, and are very quiet considering the All Season tread. Also, the car is very stable, with no loss in agility or performance.

Regards,

no, infact, my speedo may read just right seeing how it is a bit off (cruise control says im going 60 speedo shows 61)

as long as the front diameter is no larger or smaller than 3% on the rear (wouldnt have this problem if changing out rears and fronts to match) the Traction control wont try and shoot itself.

I guess my original question was not answered..If I do not want 2 different size tires front and back, what size are most people going with over the stock? 245/45..235/45?? Just want to know what the most common size is so I can start looking at some tires..Thanks.

Nope. Had them now for the past 1500 miles. 255/45 at the back and 235/50 up front.

Mongkey007,

It's not a matter of getting it right - its a matter of making sure you get tires that fit your needs and driving style. The 1.3% difference on the speedo is not an issue for me. What WAS a big deal was the fact that my options in the OEM sizes are limited. I did not like the OEM Bridgestones, and I was certainly not going to buy the Goodyear Eagle F1's again.

If this is an issue for you, then I would stick with the OEM staggered sizes. The car's suspension is designed for the staggered setup, and to switch to the same size all around will compromise performance, in my opinion. Also, keep in mind that if the diameter of the front and rear tires is more than 2%-3%, then this more than likely will wreak havoc with the VDC.

Again, the 1.3% difference equates to approximately a 1 MPH difference on the speedometer which in my view is within acceptable limits. And with these sizes - 235/50-18 (Front) and 255/45-18 (Rear) the car rides better (tires look a little 'beefier') and the VDC Traction Control operates properly with no issues.

Regards,

Re050s grip well in the dry and wet. Pretty quiet to boot. But they are HEAVY and the treadwear is 140.

I had a chance to buy a set of older Michelin Pilot Sports and they have been great. All the grip in the dry/wet as the RE050s and with a 220 or so treadwear. On top of that, there was almost a 5 lbs weight savings in the rear and a 2-3 lbs saving up front.

Pricey but I got the set used.

So what is the consensus pick for a good tire that I can use for comfort/quiet as well as good performance? I live in Georgia so I'm open to both summer or A/S tires, whichever offers best bang for buck.

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S and they aren't ready to be changed but if someone can let me know a good replacement I'm not against taking them out and drop kicking them to the curb.

I like Michelins and would probably choose the Pilot Sport PS2's. If you hate your Goodyears don't know if you would like the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.

Also people tend to overlook Continentals. But as you can see by the C&D test the Continental ContiSportContact 2 came in second.
They're noisy as hell...horrendously cupped on the front 2 tires so they sound like "wupwupwupwupwup" at low speeds and they ROAR under 40mph. I sound like I'm driving a Wrangler with mud tires or something. Brutal.

I would go back to OEM tires but they wore out in like 15k miles haha. Looking for something that rivals the OEM in performance but also last a bit longer with a quieter ride.

+1 They're LOUD!! What? Dude I can't hear you - they're too loud!!

They handle great in the rain, but you lose some turn-in quickness in the dry. But I will not buy Goodyears again because of the problems noted above - going back to Pilots.

Wow, 3 pages in less than a week on '07S tires (again)? I've been there, so here goes, my apologies ahead of time if I seem direct-

Monkey 007, for saving money and buying quality, find a tire that is close to stock but with a treadwear rating about twice as high. Go with sizes that have been tested, such as +10mm width front and back. I can tell you they look better than the stock sizes.

popcornten, it isn't the tires' fault if you're wearing on the inside, its the car's alignment.

snowcrossmxz, well said - I bought the HTR ZIIIs, too, and think they are excellent.

gugarci, Similar-sounding Goodyears couldn't be more different, especially F1 A/S vs F1 Assymmetric - check out Tire Rack's test of the Asymmetric against our stock tires.

Streetrod782 - if you don't want 2 different sizes, then you should shop for new wheels, because putting the same size tires on staggered wheels is going backwards.

Ok I guess I am confused. I have the oem wheel's and tires on the car and they are all the same size. I do not have staggered wheels. Was just wanting to put a different size tire on because the oem size limits you on the tire option. So i would assume my replacement tires would all be the same size because of the awd..am I wrong on this???

WHAAA BOING!!!
thats kinda a big deal,
i think most of us assumed you had the 6mt, which means the car comes from the factory with 2 different size rims tires on it. (rears are 8.5x18-245/45r18 and fronts are 7.5x18-225.50/r18)

if you have a 5at with an S package then all ur rims and tires are the same size from the factory,(7.5x18) if this is the case, size doesn't really matter that much as long as they are all the same. and if you get 4 of the same size tire, thoe only thing that will change is ur speedo. and maybe to look of the tire on the rim.

so we all have been giving you bad info, HAHA sry about that.

go out and look at ALL 4 tires and come back and post ur sizes, to clarify to us, so we won't give u bad advice.
