opinions on stock sport tires (RE050A)

im gonna need some new rear tires soon and i was wondering what you guys thought about the stock tires that come on the sport package.. and what other tires you guys recommend.. im not really familiar with tires so im a complete wheel and tire noob.. saving money and quality is the key here.. probably stick with same sizes..

It depends if you have a coupe or sedan. If you have a sedan, sticking with stock tire sizes will SEVERLY limit your choices. You only get about three tire manufacturers. Call tirerack or check out tirerack.com.

They're super sticky but they don't last worth ****. I'm at 19,xxx miles and (although the wear is uneven) the inner parts of my tires are bald already.

You can get larger widths and look for a different brand of tire. I'm under the impression that Falken 452s are pretty good performers and decently priced. And they last a lot longer than the bridgestones

for sedan,

get 255/45 for rear and 235/50 front

HTR z III are like 650 shipped from tire rack. they have awsome reviews too

the re050A are an amazing tire for grip and performance, but they cost a lot and have very bad tread wear.

Here's a C&D recent comparison and the Tirerack's survey info.

Most of these tires are not available in the stock size but will fit in other sizes.

+1 for the HTR z III

I just installed these on my 07 G35S sedan and they are soooo much better than the stock tires. Don't even have 500 miles on them yet, so can't confirm the tread life, but everything else is better. Plus in my case, going up a size correct my speedometer.

I have had 2 cars with the RE050 and they are a good tire but not worth the price or the limited miles you get out of them. I just put on some Exclaim UHP's and I am very satisfied with them 3k miles later. The HTR's and 452's were my other choice but the UHP's were cheaper.

One is a survey done by the Tirerack for people who own those tires and the other is an actual comparison done by C&D with the help of the Tirerack. I would look at the C&D results first and read the comments on the survey. Both are good sources of information.

Here's another link from the Tirerack. Search from withing this link for more test performed by the Tirerack.

Potenza's were awful, I had uneven wear with them, they only were a 140 rating, I switched to Falken FK 452's and so far they are better than the RE050A's. Plus I think they have a 300+ treadwear rating instead of the super soft 140.

+1 on the rear size. 245/45s also work well on the front.

I just want something that's quiet. My current tires absolutely suck (Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S)

Yeap but steering is greatly affected, more hard to turn and you will feel more vibration. The front rim is not enough (7.5 inch) to accommodate this width very well. Turn in is very aggressive.

Why do they suck??? They rate pretty highly for A/S. Are they too noisy???
I like Michelins and would probably choose the Pilot Sport PS2's. If you hate your Goodyears don't know if you would like the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3.

Also people tend to overlook Continentals. But as you can see by the C&D test the Continental ContiSportContact 2 came in second.
