VDC off
#16
I have AT, and I have turned VDC off a few times and notice nothing. Is it because I have AT, or because I'm afraid of ruining something or getting a ticket (even though I was in Law Enforcement for 10 years, I don't think I'd get a pass for "losing traction" from my buddies in this small town.)
I did see a "slip" light while turning on a gravel road. Is this part of same system?

ha, the first time I drove in the rain I made a turn out of my neighborhood onto a 35 mph road and gave it some throttle and I lost some traction not alot but it did scare me since I have never felt that happen before. It does not help that my tires have horrible wet traction which I found out after I got home from that ordeal. I floored it once 40-80 the end was swinging quit a bit it was just damp
VDC was on so it kept killing power lol. But now I know the limits in the wet/damp with my tires so I dont push it. Only in the dry.

I am 17 days into ownership of the G35 now, and didn't know much about them beforehand. About VDC and the "slip" warning: My rear tires are 245/35/20's and are about 30% worn (70% left). Since I bought the car with this wheel/tire package (actually don't like the way they look despite everyone telling me they make the car...), I don't what aspects of performance they affect. Compared to any other car I've driven, I am stuck to the road in corners; there is almost no perceptable roll.
And when it comes to accelerating forward, I can't find the conditions to lose any traction on dry road.
Is my inability to break loose a result of not having a clutch, or a result of the taller, wider tires? And if it is the tires, what are the physics behind this?
What about dropping from N to D really quick at 6500 rpms?(kidding...right?)
Thanks and understand I have only been in this car just over 2 weeks.

In my G, with VDC off, sticky 255/45s on the back, and the AC on in Houston, if I just floor it off the line the G just launches. In the winter with AC off the tires will spin briefly.
Since smoking tires aren't really my thing, that works for me
And I appreciate the traction coming out of turns under heavy acceleration.

I know in mine, if I hang the *** out a bit (intentionally, controlled location, blah blah blah), SLIP light still comes on and revs drop with VDC off. It does so a little later in the process, and drops the revs less viciously (with VDC on, figure a second of stall at around 1500 rpm, without it on, figure less than a half a second at around 3K rpms).
YMMV
