Replacing front tires only

Hey guys, front tires are pretty much shot but my rears are still looking good. (previous owner put new rear tires on the rear right before it was sold) they are the stock bridgstones (225/50/18)

I am looking at the michelin Pilot sport A/S Plus (235/50/18) for a balance of performance and longer tire wear. do you think i will be ok putting this tire on the front with the stocker bridgestones in the rear for now? or should i just get another summer type tire like the sumimoto HTR III to match the performance and tread type of the rear??? will having the 235 in front with the stock rears throw the TCS off?

Your rear tires will be stickier than the fronts, which might make for some interesting handling - although I've always found more oversteer than understeer, so maybe it will balance...?

Ha, just realized who was asking - send me an e-mail and I'll describe the Michelin handling (or there are threads in here)

bringing my thread back from the dead lol

I just did the calculation and figured out that having 235/50/18 on front and stock 245/45/18 on the rear will cause me to have a 2.1% difference in overall diameter between the front and back tires. is this enough to throw off the VDC???

It would be 27.25 inches in the front and 26.68 in the rear.

I've done 245/45 rear and 225/45 front with no problems, you're a little different since you're doing smaller diameter in the rear vs front, so I can't say for sure but I do know rolling around with a 9mm profile difference was fine for me.

this is simply my guess, but I think my larger tire in the rear vs front made VDC kick in slower on hard acceleration since it had to overcome the slower rotation. If you have a smaller tire in rear vs front then it might kick in quicker during hard acceleration since the rear is already rotating faster, perhaps this is wrong though.
