42000 miles, need new rear brakes

I have an '08 Sedan and have been told I need new rear brakes. Is this normal wear? I don't think I use my brakes excessively.

well if you've got 42k miles on your car and haven't changed your rear brakes then I would say YES you need to change them.

I had mine changed at around 20,000 kilometers and my brakes were near non existent I'm surprised you were able to drive soooooo long without changing yours.

Also do you feel any vibrations from the steering wheel when you slam down on the brakes?

hi,
i'm taking my 08G for a brake inspection too - some squealing has developed, and minor vibrations, under hwy speed braking. i was hoping they would fix the brakes under that TSB, but just got an email from the dealer service saying that teh brakes warranty runs out after 36k miles.. shoot.

42K miles on original brakes is pretty good. My 04's were changed at 43K miles and again just recently at 80K miles. It's not excessive.

I changed my rear brakes first as well. Maybe it's a normal wear pattern for the car. The front brakes are bigger and the pads are thicker on my 06.

nr2d............you got double the life out of your brakes than most of the people here.

i have 30k miles on mine and went through two front pads one set of rear pads and front and rear rotors.

I had the following done to my brakes at 45k miles -
1. changed front pads and rotors.
2. turned rear rotors and changed pads.

Made a world of difference.

Don't you think that's a little overkill? Now if you track your car then that's a whole different topic. I'm at 66k miles on my front pads.

Like they all said 42k on stock pads is good with city/highway driving. I got 20k out of my stock with couple of track sessions but these AM pads and rotors have been rock solid for about 30k now with no real wear or issues with 1 track session as well

Those don't sound that strange over 36k. I would assume brake warranty is only for factory defect as well.

not really. my pads were pretty much done and the car was starting to vibrate under any kind of braking. Plus, I race on a weekly kinda basis anyway.

I guess your driving is predominantly highway - with my 50/50 city/highway, I am already on my 3rd set of rear OEM pads (AWD) and 2nd set of front pads.

Q8y is da man!!!

dude I think both of us face the same type of weather day in day out I doubt it gets that hot for most of the guys in the states.

Plus my average speeds are probably alot higher than most people here (lack of laws) so I end up doing a lot of high speed stops
