2008 Sport w/ 40K miles and experiencing brake judder. I'm getting the TSB performed on Friday.

This is what Infiniti will do as per the TSB:
1. Identify the brake system by NMC Model Code or visual inspection.
2. Remove the front brake caliper and rotor.
3. Install the new front brake backing plate (splash guard assembly).
4. Inspect the front brake rotor to determine if resurfacing is possible or if replacement is necessary.
5. Reinstall the front brake caliper.
6. Inspect the brake pads and install the new brake pad kit and new hardware kit if replacement is necessary.
7. Perform procedure on the other side of the vehicle.

Does anyone know if the front brake backing plate (splash guard) looks like? Is it the ugly brake dust covers you see people put on other cars like Mercedes?
I would like to still be able to see the rotors and calipers.

Do you think they will replace pad stoo? How long does OEM pads last?

The splash guard is behind the rotors. They are not the ghetto protectors you see behind the wheel. You won't even know it's there. I'm kind of surprised Infiniti did not put it there to begin with--it's on a lot of Nissans.

Pretty much, they should definitely replace pads. The IF comes in whether or not they will resurface or replace your rotors. I think it'll depend on your dealer and how many miles you have on.

 

Thanks for the info. I just realized you had a DIY thread on the TSB brake judder. That sucks that you had to do your own TSB. I thought ALL dealerships had to perform the TSBs and charge back the manufacturer. Luckily, I found the TSB, otherwise I was going to bring it in and I'm sure they would have charged me for the brake work without mentioning the TSB. I doubt that i will ever buy another Infiniti. They service dept seem to be all about $$$$, and their dealerships are not consistent on what they will cover under warranty.

 

Just make sure to ask what work they plan on doing. According to others here, some dealers have not been doing the splash shields (and need to order them to boot). Unless you have very low miles, I would push for new rotors and they should already be doing new pads.

 

I'm out of warranty at 61.5k. I have turned my rotors and replaced the pads at 45k. It (the shudder)is coming back. Do I have a shot at the TSB?

I had this problem also starting around 37K miles... took to the dealership at 44K miles (it's 90 miles away so hard to schedule). They are saying that my pads are at the replacement stage so they will not service this under warranty and want to charge me $700 to do a brake job. I complained and the service director was telling me it would be warranty fraud or some BS, but he was willing to take 10% off the 500% inflated charge... BI#$%es man.

Maybe it's time for that Big Brake Kit

 

I wonder if this would affect an 06 as I just started noticing that I have brake jitter over the last few weeks. The pads and the rotor look fine.... hmmmmmm Oh, and there is only 20K miles on my 06 too.

 

I would first of all call corporate to complain. Then I would call the dealer and talk to the service manager to say you called corporate to complain and they would get back to you. I would tell him/her that the TSB involves almost all the labor required to change the pads. Therefore, he should charge the cost of the pads and comp you the rest under warranty.

 

Got my brake judder fixed today. My odometer read 59,041 and the Escondido Infiniti in California didn't even so much as flinch when I told them how many miles were on my car. The process of getting it fixed was painless. They didn't try to screw me out of the repair or blame it on something else. They ran the VIN and made the appropriate corrections. I got a pair of baffles and they resurfaced my rotors even though the previous owner of my G did a crappy uneven resurface job. I'm glad I was able to get this stuff fixed for free before my warranty expired. Big thanks to all the posters of the "Brake Judder" TSB.
