Drop in Progress

As some of you may know who have been following the progress of my previous thread..

https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-bra...v36-sedan.html

I have done a lot of back and forth when it comes to my drop. At first I thought Eibachs would be a great choice but after a little thought I figured I would pick up a new set of struts to go along with the new springs. After a little searching I found there wasn't much to go with when it comes to aftermarket options for us. After learning that Tokico had developed struts for the Gen 1 G35 coupe and sedan I thought I would reach out to them.

I started speaking to one of the representatives who informed me that they had either HP blues in development for the V36 coupe in the next coming months. This gave me some hope to hold off on my install and get some struts too. When they finally released the coupe setup many of us thought it would be just a quick test fit on the sedan and optimize it for the weight of the sedan. Well months had past and I started to give up hope.

I figured that coilovers would be my only choice. However the more and more I thought about it I would never use the adjustability of the coils, just couldn't justify the price difference. Took the dive and bought the HP blues for the coupe. I only paid about $500 for the cost of the Eibach springs and Tokico HPs which in my opinion is pretty good value over the coilover alternative. I mean if your like me and can't see yourself ever doing any adjusting of the coils.

I have set up an appointment for tomorrow to install my new suspension setup and wanted to give you guys a little progress thread for those considering doing the same thing. Had some time this past week to install my new 370z Rays and took a few shots of the existing week gap with the stock setup.

You got it Jason! I am looking forward for the install/drop but worried at the same time. The rear of the Rays sticks out from the fender and I am a bit concerned about any rubbing before I get the alignment done. Planning of getting the alignment about a week after they are installed. Also not sure of how much neg camber I should be looking at to get these babies somewhat flush.

Any last minute advise from you guys?

I am right in waiting about a week for the alignment or should I just do it with the drop?

Also the wheels are F: 19x9+47mm & R: 19x10+30mm.

Planning on a 20mm spacer for the front wheels. What type of camber should I be looking at for my setup to make it somewhat tame? Thank you for any help I am no expert on the subject at all.

Mike, you should definitely wait until the springs settle before the alignment. It would be useless to do it right at the time of the install of the springs. Btw did you pick up the OEM 370z wheels? They actually look great on our sedans. Congrats on all the new mods!

I've been dropping too much $$$ on my car lately too. I just recently picked up the FI exhaust, Akebono BBK's and the Hotchkis sways. I still need my Tokico's too! Can't wait for my tax refund, so I can do a lil more shopping. lol

Yeah I have been spending like crazy as well haha

Still planning on possibly doing exhaust but we will see. Thanks for the confirming on the alignment Jason. Any idea what I should be looking at with the camber for the wheels? Yeah they are the OEM 370z wheels. I am not a big wheel guy and for me fairly cheap good looking forged rays was the way to go.

I got my stuff from "Kyle(Houston)" / Import Parts Pro on the forum. Well the struts I did, honestly forget about the springs but would imagine from him as well. The Eibachs I have had for about a year now just sitting in the box.

NOOOOOOO we get even less love then the regular second gens!!!! ITS BS! I want to drop before wheels.. I dont want coils and I dont want dead OEM shocks and struts or bouncy springs.. All I ask for is a nice even springs with a good shock/ strut combo.. is that so much to ask for??

Just dropped off the car to the shop. We agreed on doing an alignment today so that we can stick that aggressive rear wheel in the fender and then I will come back for an "adjustment" in about a week. I am having them print out a before and after spec sheet that I will post up. Hopefully some of you experts with alignments can give me some guidance. Having them bring in the toe as close to 0 as possible and enough negative camber to tuck in the wheels in a bit.

Looking good so far! Are you using OEM 370z tire sizes? If so, you should be able to tuck that in the back without rub. Seems that's the widest/lowest tire ratio you can do with these wheels and a drop without putting in a lot of camber.
