2007 G35S Sedan - New Pads & Rotors
2007 G35S Sedan - New Pads & Rotors
I am looking to replace my brake pads and rotors as they are quite worn.
I am looking to purchase the Hawks Performance Ceramic Pads couple with Centric Plain 120 Series Rotors.
You can see what I'm referring to here on Tire Rack
Couple questions:
- Thoughts on that setup for my vehicle?
- When purchasing on sites like Tire Rack, do you need to input a quantity of "2" for the pads and rotors? Or do they come as sets for the Front and Rear? Finding myself a bit confused and don't want to end up purchasing too much or too little.
Thanks!

You get a pair.
I personally experienced judder with the Hawk Ceramic and Centric blanks. I would recommend the Centric rotors with Stoptech street performance pads--no question better braking than the Hawk ceramics and actually cured the judder after vigorous bed-in process.

well, i'd assume he chose ceramic because of dust issues. the stoptech street performance pads are pretty dusty.
They say what quantity if you read carefully. Usually, as is this case, brake pads are sold in sets for an axle. That is, you need to buy 1 front set, and 1 rear set. Where rotors are sold individually, so you need 2 front rotors, and 2 rear rotors.

And that's good to know. So I would need to purchase a quantity of 1 front and 1 rear set for pads and 2 front and 2 rear rotors. Makes sense.
Check out KNS brakes, site vendor, might be able to get an even better deal if you shoot him a PM

How does the Stop Tech Brakes compare to the Hawks in terms of dust?
Also, has anybody else experienced "judder" with the Hawks?

The Stoptech dust more than the Hawk Ceramics and about the same as the Hawk HPS pads. I got the Ceramics after getting judder with the OE pads and rotors after only about 12k. I got judder again after about 10k miles on the Hawk Ceramic/Centric pads. I believe judder may be part bad luck, part driving style but a whole lot of pad characteristics.
I have hawk hps pads and stoptech slotted rotors on mine. That setup brakes very well. Only downside is after a couple of trips through deals gap they got too hot and now have some judder at very hard braking. I haven't had a place or the time to get them heated and cooled properly again to hopefully solve it. I have always used hawk pads so I would recommend the HPS, never had any issues out of em.
when you get brake judder you should re-bed your brakes in IMMEDIATELY, or you run the risk of ruining your rotors permanently.
Also, need to always let your brakes cool off after you know they are hot. never come to a complete stop on hot brakes.

I would agree with this advice. Tried to rebed the Hawk Ceramic on a couple of occasions and the judder never went away. Switched to Stoptech pads and did the bed-in aggressively and judder is now completely gone--extremely pleased about that.
