So, I had to replace my rear brake pads and purchased . I went to put them on last night and had a problem with fitment. I was able to actually mount both pads onto the caliper and manually pushed the piston in so the pad on the piston was pushed all the way in...however, when I went to mount the caliper back onto the rotor assembly, it would not fit. What am I doing wrong? Please note that I have aftermarket dimpled slotted rotors from brakeperformance.com.

I ended up re-using the old pad on the outer part of the rotor as it appears there is still some pad life left on it. Seems fine so far...any others with similar experiences? Solutions? Thanks in advance!

So the pads fit fine except they were too thick for the caliper to come over top of them? My vote is that the piston was not pushed all the way in. Did you remove the brake fluid cap?

No experience with those rotors but I guess if they are too thick, that could be problematic as well.

 

I don't see how if the pads fit and the piston is pushed back, how the caliper wouldn't fit. Exactly what is hitting? You sure you got the piston back enough?

sometimes, it seems like the piston is pushed all the way in, but its not... if you dont have a piston compressor clamp thingamajig, grab a c clamp big enough, and use your old pads to cover the piston, clamp it till the old pad goes flush with the caliper.

 

Sometimes you need one of those little square tools with the ***** to actually screw the rear piston back in

 

Just trim it up a little bit with a dremel.

 

Make sure all of the pistons are retracted completely. The discs are not the problem but the fit with new pads is a bit tight, you may have to tap the caliper into the bracket with a mallet - rubber or plastic preferred. Also, reusing the outer pad is cool for a temporary gotta get to work deal but not long term. Don't leave it like that - fix it properly.

 

Hey Guys...thanks for the feedback! I ended up pulling the pins and greasing them up real well and that did the trick..yes, I'm a donkey.

 

Trim what again? There's almost nothing I'd recommend trimming when it comes to proper brake pad fitment.

 

How do you like the pads? I find the ThermoQuiets to be vary noisy on Nissan products. =/ I hope you have better luck.
