Did my first oil change on the 07x today, cardboard trick did the job If only I had though of doing something the same with the regular oil drain (towards the end it started to drip inwards and into the belly pan

Quote: I wanna thank everyone for posting all this info for the DYI oil change.

I just did my 1st oil change on my 08 G35X sedan today. It went really smooth.
I unscrewed the 3 screws to drop the hatch and when I unscrewed the oil filter half of the remaining oil didnt make it through the hatch hole. Anyone else having this issue? I was thinking about cutting up a piece of cardboard to kind of deflect the oil down the hatch hole. BTW I am doing this in my driveway not in a shop....

You could just pull one of the other bolts from the surrounding bellypan and take it down to the hardware store to match up. Off the top of my head, I'd guess it's about 5mm diameter x 20mm length w/ fine tread pitch, and 10mm hex head.

I'm getting ready to do my first oil change in my G and was wondering, are all crush washers the same? Can I pick one up from my local auto parts store? Or is this a specific OEM part I need to get?
Sorry for the noobish question, but I want to be certain.

It is a generic crush washer, so you do not need to get the OEM washer (although they are nice). Just make sure you get a crush washer for the same diameter as your drain plug and you should be fine.

Can anyone confirm if the 08+ (non-X) have the rear part of the belly pan hinged, so that you only need to remove bolts at the rear section only, to make the filter and drain bolt accessible? I'm going to start doing my own oil changes. Apprec the help.

EDIT: Just decided to check it out myself, and yes, very easy. With the four rearmost 10mm bolts removed the back part of the undertray hinges down, exposing the 14mm drain plug and filter. I just used a short bungee to keep that rear flap down. Less than 20 mins and done. No drip mess or any lines in the way, easy wipe up. Just don't forget (a) new crush washer on the drain plug, (b) old black rubber o-ring comes out with the old filter.

Quick question!! I am about to do an Oil Change on the G for the first time, usually the dealer would do it but I am gonna start doing them myself. I am gonna go synthetic but I am not sure exactly which one to get! What do you guys recommend? 08, 47xxx miles! And what kind of oil filter? Thanks in advance!!

5W-30 is perfectly fine. Get a WIX filter #51365 (or a Napa Gold #1365 = same thing) and call it a day.

btw. .. can't believe you've been paying for oil changes up until now though

NOTE: Wix has changed the part number recommendation for our cars. It is now a 51358 (or 1358 for the Napa Gold). The other filter number will still work of course, but Wix has changed their recommendation to this one.

I am guessing just to be on the safe side! I don't want nothing to go wrong with this car! Something goes wrong I could blame the dealer since still under warranty! But from now on I am gonna start doing my own oil changes! And document everything I do to her! Where did you guys get your in cabin filters?!

I just picked up a WIX at the local Napa dealer. I've heard people get the FRAM carbon filled ones at Walmart for super cheap, but I've never seen them in stock at any Walmart around me. You can also also use one from a different Nissan car and get it for WAY LESS than the factory filters.
