It was a lot of trial for me, better to cut long than short. I will take it back off and do some measurements before I re-lube it up. A side note, ALL SHIFTER PARTS ARE METAL! (except the white piece).

The front and back slits are pretty easy to eye, they are very close to the original bottom side notches. I took my dremel with a cutoff wheel and went down the center of the 2 original slits, then pushed it left to right to widen the slit close to the original width. Better to go a little thinner and test fit as you go. Make sure to watch your depth with the cutoff wheel, you don't want to be cutting into the inside lever.

For the outside lever shortening I took a wooden skewer (flat side) and stuck it down the shift ***** on the side so it hits the first level (you will see when you look down inside there is a ridge that the original outside lever bumps into, make sure you don't stick it down the center where the inner shift lever goes). I marked the clip notches for both ***** on the skewer. Should be just under 3/4 inch.

The white piece and inner lever were the parts I had to grind and fit, grind more and fit.... I started by marking and taking off a little less than what I did from the outside lever and went from there.

I will do some measuring of the final product and update.

Measurements

Here are some pics with my tape, autofocus is currently not working on my D40x so it was a little tough.

Take your time, do lots of test fitting, better to keep it a little long and slowly grind away until it's just right. Also take a look at how the shifter functions before you go cutting away at it.

Unfortunately I hate to say this, but in this day and age you have to. "Do this at your own risk, I will not be held liable if you go cut happy and ruin your shift lever!!!"

All measurements are my best guess based off of the pictures and my installation. Look carefully at the pictures and also do some of the stuff in my above post until you feel comfortable before cutting stuff.

1 tick mark before 3/8 inch for the inside lever.

~3/4 inch white nub (I recomend cutting the bottom clip off first and then fit the top round portion)

To me it looks like ~3/4 inch from the factory clip slots to the cut outer lever (A little over ~5/8 inch if you stick the tape's teeth into the slot)

Great, but since i'm the type of people that tend to ruin things instead of making them right, i'll just do the swap for the ****, who knows if i might put the original **** back in the futur .

From what I saw when I pulled the **** apart modifying the **** to sit lower will not be an option regardless if it is the stock or the M45. The way the button works and lack of extra material to remove to make it sit lower would not make it possible. If you want to play around, pull you **** off and then pop the button out (take a very small flat head, butter knife whatever and use it to pop out the button from the side) take a look at how it functions and the inside of the **** itself.

Wow, that's amazing Jason. I can't believe it's more expensive. Now that I have the M45s shift ****, the OEM shift **** for the G shouldn't be worth anymore than half the price of the M **** IMO. I am sure you would agree there is a big difference in quality between the two.
