DIY: Clean your throttle bodies
#106
Great DIY! Did this for the first time in 120K miles and there were flecks coming off the throttle body. Replace the spark plugs and cleaned the MAF since I had things apart and it cured the rough idle that I was having. Now if only I can find a DIY to firm up the suspension, the car would be as good as new. Well, maybe not from the outside...

I just cleaned mine, bought the car with a hundred K. And I'd llke to say, DO NOT CLEAN YOUR THROTTLE BODY's if you don't know what you're doing. Which was my case. It took me three days of going out there and trying to do a throttle body relearn to get my Idle back to normal. Don't freak out if you do ruin your idle. The relearn takes a lot of precision, a stop clock and patience. Boy was I happy when the car fixed itself, having to buy a new throttle body would have ruined my life.

I didn't disconnect the harness, i left the car in the on position in the ignition. That may have been my mistake. The relearn is a bitch to pull off. I literally had to memorize the relearn before I finally got it and the car fixed its idle. Now i'm actually idling lower than my brother stock sedan.

It can take a few days for the idle to truly settle down, so don't freak out if it seems high after a relearn procedure. I noticed it while pulling up to a stop light. As the car slowed down, the revs would climb back up to 1000, maybe 1200. It didn't happen every time, but this went away within maybe 3 days.

The majority of people who've done this DIY haven't had this issue.
Also mine didn't take long for the idle to finally settle in, I think it took like 2 rides in the same day to get everything adjusted back to normal.

great DIY, im going to do this soon when I install my new Gen 3.
side note, I called my dealer, Austin Texas Infiniti, and asked how much it would cost and what is all included in the TB cleaning.
I was quoted $200, and they do EXACTLY what this DIY says to do...
THANKS FOR SAVING ME SOME $$$

Thanks Q8y_drifter for the very helpful DIY!!
It's actually easier to clean two TBs on this car than one in a 4th gen maxima
Mine weren't even all that dirty @ 30K, but now they're spotless
(I've also cleaned teh MAF sensors) (used CRC TB cleaner and CRC MAF cleaner)
I didn't disconnect the any wires, but i did disconnect the battery and did the relearn procedure anyway. Looking good now.
But doesn't idle any better (probably because it was okay before (:P) )
P.S. when i asked the dealer to do this, the actual mechanic said that "Infi doesn't reccommend touching the TBs @ all".
Yeah, of course! The dealer would much rather you come in with a stalling car & then charge you $200 to "fix the problem"
