Found out about this mod recently from the good folks at our sister site myG37.com/seat-lowering-mod so I'd thought I'd make a diy from the pictures I took. I had previously looked at the previous-gen g35 instructions but could not figure out how it applied to our seats--the difference is you approach from the front! The mod lowers the sport seat about 3/4" or so--just enough to make a HUGE difference for me as my hair no longer touches the roofliner (I am 6' tall btw) This mod takes no more than 15 minutes and has a difficulty rating of 2 (super easy).

First off, position the seat so it is as high as it will go and also to the rear to give you plenty of room. Next you will want to remove the front plastic fascia just below the front of the seat. Do this by pulling on the inner side first (see below). There are 3 clips.


Once all 3 clips are out, slide the fascia towards the inside of the car so that the clips slide out of the side fascia (see clips in pics below)


This is the view you get with the plastic removed. The area to be modded is noted by the blue ring.


This is a closeup of how it comes stock. Notice that there are some threads on the end of the rod; we will be backing up the nut, and we will also be removing a thick washer that does not appear to be needed. Go ahead and remove the 12mm nut.


Here are the parts that are found on the worm-gear type rod. Because the bumper bushing on the right has metal on both it's surfaces, I am removing the thick metal washer (second from the right). Reinstall the 3 other parts in order and use thread locker on the nut. Tighten the nut on the rod just enough so that it encompasses an entire set of threads. Note: the 1st washer (3rd from the right) is raised--be careful if you decide to remove this or replace it with a flat washer as the rod actually goes from a large diameter to a smaller diameter for the hardware on the end. If you take out too much hardware, there is the possibility that the motorized adjuster could fall off the main rod. Edit: I have confirmed james0076ss's findings that replacing the raised washer with a flat washer works fine (Thanks James!)--the rubber bumper bushing does not get fully compressed with that so I think this is as low as it will go.

Just did this and removed the 2 middle washers in your pix and put a flat thin washer in their place and must say I love'n the car all over again. Thanks Again Mishmosh for providing this DIY and PIX!!!!

 

You're welcome! I couldn't believe it when I did it--this issue was a nagging problem that bothered me every time I drove the car. I actually didn't want the sunroof because of the headroom loss but it was bundled in the options. IMHO, this mod is right up there with Intgr8r's two clutch mods--makes you love the car all over again!

 

Looks promising. I too would like to be able to drop the seat just a wee bit more.

Are there any issues with possibly rubbing/bottoming/pinching any of the carpeting/wires/heat ducts/etc. anywhere underneath ??

 

Good question! I just looked an nothing is getting pinched or smooshed.

Yes, you can lower it the exact same procedure. I did.

i did this and now I can feel a bar in the seat on the back left side poking up when I fully lower the thing. This happen to anyone else?

 

Did you ever figure out what the bar feeling was? I want to do this mod, but won't if it makes the seat uncomfortable.

 

I have not had any such issue. Moreover, you can always adjust the stop back to where it was quite easily. Bottom line, it is worth your time. I still wish the seat could go even lower.
