So I have my headlights open right now for painting and I also bought some STI-R lenses. The small screws holding the shroud in place are in a ridiculously tight spot. Has anybody done this before and have any tips for how they got them off??

I have a variety of screwdrivers and none have been able to either reach it or generate enough torque to move it.

If push comes to shove, I'll have to just chalk it up for now and seal them back with the OEM lens until I find an installer. Any suggestions?

 

I've used a L shaped Phillips head without a problem although it did take a little longer time and patience. I've done this many times with both zenki and kouki headlights.

 

I had the same issue. I don't recommend this, I put my body weight on the screwdriver so it doesn't strip the head of the screw and proceeded to open it slowly.

 

Hmm good idea. Good thing I have my sisters car while mine is faceless. Def gonna see if they have one at walmart tonight

Wait... you said you don't recommend it, but it worked for you right?? Did you end up stripping your screw heads?

 

Yes, it did work for me. To me it felt like there was too much threadlock in the 4 screws.

No, I used a good quality philips bit.

 

I had the same problem with the AFS headlights. Your option is to either sacrifice the screws and just cut them off then replace with new ones, or try and get an extremely long screwdriver with a big handle.

Short of cutting them off, none of the tricks i tried worked. It just felt like the screws were literally welded on there.

 

Well I went and got a socket-style screwdriver and got the outside screws out, but the ones on the inside are just ridiculous. I need a really long screwdriver but a thin one since the screw is in such a tight spot. Everything is done except for these lenses... really hoping this doesn't spill over into a third day

 

Do you have AFS? If not, you should be able to pop out the entire assembly for easier access.

 

^Nope, no AFS on mine. I did consider trying to pop the whole thing out the bottom, but I just couldnt accept defeat on the screws at the angle I had. I did finally get everything off with a combination of socket wrench/extender/phillips bit

Whatever fastening techniques Nissan used to keep the projector housing in place shouldve been used on the dam interior to stop all those rattles..... actually I should take that back since the next mod on the horizon is the interior
