I have the regular engine sounds too.
But the loud ticking is definitely NOT normal sounds. And like I've said before, it only happens 1/2 the time. "Normal" sounds happen all the time and are consistent.
When I floor it.... 3k, 4k, 5k, normal revving sounds....... 6k plus..... A wierd loud ticking (twice as loud as regular engine sounds) kicks in until redline.
The service manager that heard the sounds agreed they aren't normal.

Not load based, but RPM based. I can have the car in neutral and rev it up to 5000rpm or so and it'll start ticking like crazy. Almost sounds like it's coming from under the steering area or inside the dash somewhere... definitely not normal.
It doesn't always do it, and seems to go away after I peg the throttle a few times and wind it up to redline. I have a service appointment this week and will ask them to check it out.
