Is the Intake worth it?

hi guys, i am considering buying a intake too now. Before i can do so, could you please answer a couple of questions for me, so i can make sure its worth it.

How Much Horsepower gain are we looking at?

Is the noise alot over the stock? I mean does it water down the luxury alot?

Hom much mileage improvement? I know people answered this question already in another thread, but i was looking for more solid feedback. I am hoping for the senior members to get involved and help a noob out!

Thanks guys!

hp gains... minimal unless combine with other breather mods and a tune...the noise depends on which intake you decide to go with, ex: cai (cold air intake) will make your car sound "mean"..imo it does not 'water down' the luxury.

mpg?... depends on how heavy your foot is...

... ps... search has about 100 threads about intake #'s, pro/cons on brand etc... hope this helped.

the HP is not going to be much, but you will feel it a bit in the upper RPM.

it will increase the sound a lot. im not sure about the stillen because it doesnt come with full pipes, but if either system removes the resonators on the intake piping the sound will drastically increase at WOT. unless you are gunning it you will not hear a huge difference and personally i dont think it waters down the "luxury look"

the milage will increase a bit, but if you drive your car harder after you install then obviously it wouldnt increase.

is it worth it...IMO YES
do you gain any horsepower.....i think maybe a couple 2-3
is it louder than stock....yes
does it kill the luxury....to me the G is a sports car with Luxury iminities, it only adds to the sport. Besides the factory flat filter looks like crap compared to a Stillen air filter

Sound is great, but wish it had the sound of a true CAI. If one ever comes out my will be sold asap.

One question. When I added a cone filter to my 350z, I (and several others) got a chirp/whistle sound when ever I hit the gas. Is this the same with the '07 G35?

This is just a guess as I don't have an aftermarket intake on my G, but all the VQ engines have had a slight whistle with aftermarket intakes. My 2k2 Maxima had it and so do the new ones as does the Altimas, 350Z's, etc.

$300-$400 is alot of money to spend on something that gives you no appreciable gain in hp/tq. From looking at the dyno graphs if appears that you actually lose hp/tq down low where you spend most of your driving time and gain up high where you rarely spend time. They look nice, but after the initial installation and uforia where off will rarely look at the engine bay and get excited. The growl is evident once you pass the 3-4k mark, making a deeper growl than stock. I find the growl annoying up at the top of the rpm range, but it's sounds menacing up to that point and very quiet during normal driving. Is it worth the price? To me the answer is no. I would rather wait for technosquare or other ECM programs that allow the VQ to make more power from these mods.

400 is alot of money!!!!!

for me atleast, thats like my weeks pay check.

and i did recall the dynographs, i definetly dont wanna lost power on low end.

by the time i ll get my 400 bucks out in gas savings it ll be time to sell the car.

but still if i ever have disposable income , thats gonna be my first mod.

i think i should get radar detetor first to save myself of the havoc my 306 horses can cause on the road, i ve been driving fast since i got this baby, and got a ticket already after 2 years.

Well, in case anyone cares, I intend to do alot of mods to my car EVENTUALLY but it's just been tough putting together the disposable cash to do it.. it's definitely very important to me so I'm gonna get on it but anyway, the point is I've done alot of thinking on the priorities of the things I wanna do and they are as follows:

  1. Rims (done)
  2. Drop (not needed...yet)
  3. tint (gonna get on it..)
  4. smoke out tail lights (kit ordered)
  5. Radar detector (Escort)
  6. Spoiler (aftermarket, but OEM style)
  7. sub+amp ($1000 budget, 10" JL W3 probably)
  8. Exhaust (custom-bent piping?)
  9. Intake (..Stillen?)
  10. Front lip/kit (Tommy Kaira beautifulness)
  11. side body kit
  12. supercharger

Stillen was my choice and I'll stick with it. HP gains are few but you're not
buying an intake for HP or sound. The intake allows you to get more air into
your plem, with the addition of a spacer you get complete flow to all cylinders.
Then with the addition of a free flowing cat-back system all that air is leaving
you car in the form of exhaust.....this is where the HP gains come in....every
thing works togeather and sounds soooo sweet!
