Has anybody installed their own exhaust system??

Hi guys,

I just picked up a Stillen Long tube intake and Stillen exhaust, and i was wondering if anybody has installed their own exhaust.

I am assuming that its just a few bolts (hopefully not seized) and just match up and install.

I personally dont know any answer for you, but would like it if you can keep us posted if you find the solution to this issue from an outside source. If/When you get into it on your own, pics and a DIY would be valued info to us all.

Well doesnt seem to hurt to try. I mean, i have done lowering springs, brakes, alarm installs, tranny bushings, etc.

Just worried whether its just the stupid bolts may have seized or something. And i am concerned about exhaust gaskets.

i've installed aftermarket apex exhaust on my old car, it's not difficult, put car on jack stands, if you have access to a lift, even better, unbolt it from the cat, and some rubber hangers to worry about

bolts shouldn't seize especially for our car being relatively new, just spray some liquid wrench beforehand
gaskets should be cheap, ask riverside infiniti, i'm guessing like 10 bucks for the gasket

hard part is that exhausts are usually pretty heavy, put it on the jack so when you've lined it up right, jack up the exhaust to bolt it in

Most exhaust systems come with new gaskets, if not just make sure the old ones are not cracked or ripped. I believe Nissan/Infiniti uses steel gaskets, so it shouldnt be a problem at the cat connection.

Spray some WD-40 on all the bolts and nuts before you start working. Always use 6 sided sockets to prevent stripping. This should help if anything is seized. I also highly doubt anything would be seized considering you car is still relatively new.

I did three different exhaust on my cars in my garage so far.. the hardest part is taking the muffler off from the rubber gromet thing.. you really have to use your finger strength.. but rest of the installation should be easy..

Yeah i did.. Great price too.

Just installed the Stillen Long Tube intake, and man that stupid little hose thing is messed up (breather filter hoses). THe OEM clamps wont hold it down.

The intake sounds pretty good (yet again, not even close to my 300C hemi's roar). But it really doesnt get loud until about the higher range of the RPM's .

Unfortunately i am going to have to wait until Wednesday for the exhaust. I am going to have the shop install it because there is a part of the exhaust that was CLAMPED and we couldnt take it apart.

I am also waiting for my 20" chrome zennetti flows to come in soon. And my final mod this year will be lowering springs and winter tires!

best. advice. ever.

leave the exhaust hung on the car, push it to the side a bit so you can spray between the rubber and the metal, spray, then work it back and forth a little. now you can pop the rubber hangers off with almost no effort.
