Question What are your thoughts about K&N intake filters?

Hi!

I have heard from friends that, apparently, K&N air filters for intake are the best in the market? I do not know if this is true or not, but I have been told that it last for the entire life of the car, that you get an average of 2mg additional, and that you could get a few additional hp (4 to 5).

Has anyone of you used these filters? Any advice?

Many thanks gang! You are the best!!!!

There will be no noticeable gain in hp or mpg.

So, i guess it is waste of money?

Gee, I was hoping to get something worthwhile that would have done some small miracles!

Well, I guess I will continue paying extra cost for fuel!!

well i have a K&N filter in my car. i do recomend them. wont feel a difference, but you will have better flowing air at higher rpms, and a little growl to the motor.

The filter is worth the money. You should never have to buy a filter again. As for these other guys, i actually felt a difference in my car. The factory airfilter is restrictive to airflow. I have other engine mods, so this may be more helpful to me. If you want to feel noticable gains, pick up a plenum spacer and a drop in K&N.

When one buys a K&N air filter, do we have to put something on it first before using it (like the spray that they sell?) or do we just put it in place and use clean stuff and spray only when it gets dirty down the road?

You need to buy 2 if you're going to do it. At $60.00+ per filter, it's best to save up and buy an intake kit that comes with high flow cleanable filters already. If you do buy them, they come pre-oiled and just need to pick up a recharge kit when it's time to clean it.

K&N Filters....?

When I bought my second Z back in '92 the first thing I did (after wheels & tires) was install a K&N intake and HKS exhaust. With 125K miles on the clock
when I sold it I had no issues. (lasted longer than the wheels) When my G35
arrived that was the first mods I installed, Stillen CAI/Z-Tube combo
which contains a sizable K&N filter. You don't need two filters, with the
Filter charger kit clean/dry time is less than 2 hours....it's very important to
follow the instructions and never install filter wet/moist!

nope, comes oiled already. only time you need to re-oil it is when you clean it yourself.

well, we do need two filters because 2nd gen sedans have dual intake systems

So, do I understand that if I were to make swich with K&N, I would need to change the whole intake system to suit this type of filter? Or do I just need to replace paper filter with K&N?

K&N doesn't make an intake kit for the 2nd gen sedan so all you can do is change out the paper filters.

If you get an aftermarket intake, then it comes with new cleanable filters already so if you're planning on ever getting an aftermarket intake, getting drop in K&N filters is a waste of money IMO.
