How often do you change your engine air filter?

I was looking thru my service book and the first mention of a engine air filter change was at 12 month for premium and next one I saw on a normal schedule 1 was at 24 mths. But really, how often do you guys change out your filters? I was told mine were dirty I have yet to take a look myself. I have had the car since, Dec, so thats 8 months or so, since I would be getting them pretty cheap online, I figure I might just start doing them every 6months regardless. opinions?

I usually go every 2-3 oil changes, or about 15,000 miles.
I also take them out occasionally and if they are super dirty, I'll change them early.... but it's typically every 15,000 for me.

at 22 a pair, it find it difficult to bother with. I would maybe its it AEM dryflow filter, but with the oiling and etc.. and even then with dryflow... how much is a AEM dryflow cleaning kit ( they dont have the filters for our cars now btw) and how much is a K n N cleaning kit.. I dont know but I venture to say $10 bucks? Maybe more? If its $5 maybe I seee the reasoning behind cleaning.. And if the filters cost like $80 a pair.. if not I dont see it making much economic sense, saving too little, too much hassle.
