Best Intake System???

For all those 07-08 G35 sedan owners with a new intake system, what kind did you install? Or for everybody else, what kind is the best in your opinion? I'm going to be installing one in the next 2 weeks, and I have to choose between these 4: Fujita Dual Ram Air Intake, Ingen Cold Air Intake, Stillen Long Tube Cold Air, and the Nismo Dual CAI (primarily made for 07+ 350Z but works for G35 too). So, taking into account increased hp and tq along with better intake sound and safety, what is the best?

PS: the guy at one of the shops near me said that ram vs. cold doesn't really matter too much, is this true cause i always though cold was better? also, he said cold air intakes, although rarely, can take in water and be damaged if you drive over a really deep puddle, is this true and has it happened to anyone?

I think the Injen is the best right now - it's the one that I'm eyeing. An e-mail from Stillen told me to keep my eyes peeled for a Gen 3 ultra-long tube intake for the Sedan like the one they built for the G37.

Personally, before getting this car, I would have recommended Fujita. I had one on my last car and loved it. From reading around the forum the last month or so, Stillen seems like a pretty good choice.

It is possible for any CAI to take in water and hydrolock an engine. However, from the pictures I've seen, it seems like the filters for this car stay pretty high in the engine bay instead of curving down behind the wheel wells like in various other cars. I can't really see water jumping from a puddle up that high, but it is always a possibility.

Anything with a long tube is good as they take in more freash and cold air.
If you are buying for the sound, all are very similar. (You can actually get the same sound even by taking out the filter element).

Am I missing something here?

I have done a fair amount of reading on this and other forums and it seems like stock is the winner in performance.

Is that not correct?

I am not going to sacrifice performance for sound.

Right now my thought is I will likely add an FI catback and maybe the HFC as well. That seems to be the biggest bang in performance and provides a nice sound.

The Nismo Intake will NOT FIT our cars. Its been attempted and proven not to fit by members on this site. You can search for it there are a couple of threads regarding this. Also, personally from everything i've read and from the experience of the members of this site, you (or any 07 G35 owner) really only two options that show any promise so far a) Injen b) JWT Popcharger (which you left out). I am also looking into getting an intake to compliment my FI exhaust (which is still on order) and those are the ONLY two options I am looking into just not sure which 1 to get yet . Although I am curious to see what develops with this "new" stillen intake, but if history preceeds itself the "new" Stillen intake will be a bust just like its other two intake systems. Good luck with your purchase, let us know what you decided to go with.

you're right to an extent...i think with the aftermarket intakes you lose some power down low but get a little back up top...the sound it produces alone is worth the price of admission though...i could never go back to the stock intake sound now

If there's no performance to be had, then it wouldn't matter which one you get - just get the cheapest one and make sure you use good filters.

Does anyone know if there's any truth to the myth that CAI systems give you better gas mileage?

I'm thinking stock is best for performance.
But, with that being said, where's the JWT in this poll?

I mean, considering it seems to provide the best numbers out of all intake options, why is it not included here?

Thanks.

I have a 2008 G35xS, would adding a z-tube make the most sense, leaving the stock air box and filter? And then of course adding a FI exhaust. That is the only mod thus far that seems to be a slam dunk choice.

From what I understand K&N also does little for you and looks to be a negative in terms of it's filtering abilities and removing the silencer seems like a bad idea. I know you have an Injen Dual CAI and like it, but my guess is that adding the z-tube and FI would make for a nice sound.

I want a subtle increase in sound and performance. Nothing too loud and I can't stand exhaust gurgle.

These topics of air intakes seem to go round and round.
