Rough Transmission shifts from 2 to 3

Hi,
I own a 08 G35 Journey Sedan AT.
When i engage manual and start shifting, I get a violent thud when i shift from 2nd gear to 3rd anywhere between 3000 and 5000 Revs. My car has run 4000 Miles.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
When i called infinity dealer i was told that that is too high Revs and that the cars have very robust transmission and not to worry about it.

They all do that (partially based on throttle position).

1-2 is always slipped, 2-3 is always a crisp shift.

Older ones do that too.

I love the firm shifts. I wish it would do it on the 1-2 shift.

Define violent.....do the wheels break loose?

One man's violence is another man's satisfying shift.

Hi,
I have a 2007 G35X which has the same problem when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Someone asked about how violent the shift is, I describe it as being rear-ended. When I rev mine up and shift from 2nd-3rd it will actually feels like someone kicked the back of my chair. I have been to the dealership several times and nothing has ever been found. I am going in tomorrow for the VDC/Slip light problem and I am going to take a tech out for a test drive. I'll keep you posted.

My '07 S is like that too, it feels like a "thud" when shifting 2nd-3rd, but only when I shift below 4500 rpm or so. Above that, the shift is firm but not quite as jolting.

someone recently posted a similar problem and Infiniti service told him his 2->3 clutchpack was defective and it was repaired under warranty.

if you're under warranty, why NOT take it in????

At first I thought the same thing. But I have driven five other 07 G35X since buying mine (two loaners and three from friends) and none of them have had the same problem. My car is at the dealer today having the front and back brakes done. The tech was going to try and do a little research on the problem. Hopefully I will have something to report latter today. Thanks for the replies.

My car does this too sometimes, I thought it was because I was shifting to hard!

You know mine does this too, BUT it's based on throttle position, for me at least it is. Lets say If I WOT it in 2nd and shift to 3rd at the red-line then I'll get a slight thud from the transmission.

Now if I nearly WOT (but not fully) then shift to 3rd at the red-line and as its shifting I'll WOT (i.e. Fully press the throttle down) all the way down then it'll shift perfectly with no harsh transmission thuds.

Now if I don't WOT or partially and then shift to 3rd as I'm either keeping the same throttle position or less then this is when I get the so called "harsh" transmission shift.

Play around with throttle position and gear changes, it makes a world of a difference. Whenever I have a friend drive my car for the first time they nearly always end up jerking the car like no tomorrow because they do not expect the transmission to buck like that. But then again if you WOT it in 2nd and shift to 3rd at a lesser throttle then you're bound to get transmission thuds.

stevester: I had that hard - too hard - shift to 3rd in manual mode primarliy. It seemed to get worse this winter. Also had the TSB 028 applied last year. My dealer confirmed the "hard shift", replaced the Valve body in the tranny, and it's much better. Still not as smooth as other shifts, you smooth but with firmness, but better. Had it done about 2 months ago. It was warranty work, so who knows if it Really was necessary. I've got 17k miles on the clock.
