jcrayamsterdam,

It was almost as if someone rearended me along with the engine hesistating to shift into 3rd. It only did this once, and I know it wasn't my valve body upgrade. I started having idling and starting issues after I installed the Art pipes, but the problems have been resolved after installing an Optima battery and ECU reset.

35, you're right. It happens to me on 1-2, I'm not sure about 2-3. Waiting for the next cold snap and so I can drop the car off at the dealer. The idea is to go for a drive with the tech.

mine has the rough 2>3 shift when its cold and depending upon throttle position and RPM. Once the trans warms up it goes away. I rarely get it in the summer. I think it's normal or as G35Now! put it, very common.

first off im going to do my service, transmission flush, diff flush, filters etc. Maybe the trans flush will help a bit, for my tans its weird though, it doesnt do it all the time, and when it does happen, its only when accelerating slowly, if i drive at a normal speed it doesnt jerk badly, mostly if you're in traffic or something

I have an 07 Journey with auto trans. and I've recently noticed the rough shift between 2 and 3 but only when RPMs are under 2k. This is in Drive mode. Driving in the city doesn't allow me to rev much higher. Is this something I should bring to the dealer for warranty?

thanks.

We finally had an announced cold snap yesterday. I left my car at the dealer the night before so I could go for a drive with the tech yesterday morning. It took all of five minutes and the tech confirmed this kind of shift is normal.

He said the transmission oil is so hard at that temperature that shifts will be terrible until it warms up a little.

I asked whether or not driving in any particular manner (slower or harder) made a difference and he said no.

This makes sense to me and so I accept it, despite how rough those shifts are.

J

New note: The tech also said the oil would have a lot of trouble flowing properly through the valves and channels when it's cold. I didn't really get that part until I looked it up. Here's a link: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/automa...smission12.htm

I had an 07 G35X - traded in in JUne 10 for a new 10 G37X {wished I bought the 07 @$20.2k with only 25k miles, big mistake}. I had the rough shifts described here. First they replaced the valve body and it was better. Then the rough shifts returned about a year later - usually in the Cold weather, but sometimes after it was fully warmed up. The tech took it for a test drive, confirmed the harsh shifts 2 > 3 and ordered a New Tranny !!! Infiniti approved in 1 day, it was ordered, came in 2 days, "popped" in a half day, and I had a new tranny in 4 days. Pepe Infiniti in White Plains, NY - best dealer around. tremendous service AND they made very good deal on both the leases.

As an aside: You guys should log on to MyG37.com - related forum - read the troubles that I and many othere members have with the newer 7 AT. Much more lagging and gear hunting issues and they have had the rough upshifts - this time 3 > 4 and 4< 3. A recent TSB which involved a Reflash of the ECU and the TCM - has eased some of the "pain" BUT Lagging /hesitation is still present in certain driving scenarios. The throttle is less responsive too. The 7 AT has provided about 10% better mileage gains over the 07, at the sacrifice of some performance IMHO....

Wow Almatti, you managed to get a new tranny! Would you be willing to scan the work order from that job but redact anything personal (your info, VIN, etc...)?

I'd like to show it to my tech.

J

jcray: I'll try to find it. It was done over 2 years ago. I now have an 10 G37X. But keep in mind, Pepe Infiniti, according to their information, is considered the No.1 Infiniti Dealer in The US!! I don't know about that, but I'm sure they are in the top 3 or so. It was Warranty Work and Infiniti was cognizant of the rough shifting Tranny. Some cars have it, some owners, just accept it, some people don't have it or notice it.

Foolish me: I should have bought that car.

Yeah, I gotta say, the dealer experience in the US is way different than Canada. At least from my experience. I'm floored by how well you guys are treated!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but mine does this (07 G35x) and the jerk is violent when I press the throttle all the way down (manual shifting when going 2 > 3). Does anyone know what causes this and why it doesn't happen in D and DS modes? Is it bad for the transmission?

Maybe Lubegard 19610 Instant Shudder Fix could help (look at "Shudder at 40mph" thread)
