I need a tool for cutting holes before I consider this thing any further.
That's my biggest obstacle! I dont have anything to cut with!

Have you guys seen the video of the guy installing the Gen 3? That tool he used was awesome, but I'm not going to buy one just to install the intake

You could get something like a saw and slowly hack at it

He used a Sonicrafter to cut the holes.
$100 on Amazon. $100 on Amazon.
That makes our $500 intake a $600 intake

$600 is buying me Impul Springs before it buys me an Intake.
Who wants to buy one and then ship it to me to borrow when I'm ready?

The SoniCrafter is ideal and has a ton of uses that are hard to replicate with any other tool.

But, everyone has a dremel right? Just get a multipurpose cutter drill bit (preferrably with flex extention) and go to town with it! The plastic of the core support is pretty thin! Don't worry about the cutting... that's not the hard part.

dremel flex shaft:

dremel bit 561:
"Ideal for cutting wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall, laminate, aluminum and vinyl siding in a variety of applications-such as preparing an area for light fixtures or making cutouts in cabinets and paneling"

Or want a sonicrafter on the cheap? check out the clone at Harbor Freight.
Sometimes it is on sale for $45-50. Supposedly works well and the attachments are cheap!
I'm actually set to receive mine next week (backordered sale price of $46).

I admit it... I don't own a Dremel, but I should.

I'm the last guy to finally break down and buy an ipod too.

Yea - I guess a drill with a strong bit would be good enough to just go at the plastic perpendicular(ly?). It doesnt need to be pretty (read: even), as long as it's big enough right?

I'm worried about all the dust and plastic pieces that will come off, I wouldn't want them to get caught up in anything important as they fall down from the drill

I don't think it would be a problem, because our cars can drive through a sand storm fine, I'm sure filters and stuff like that would prevent them from falling into anything bad.

Nothing important down there. Most of the debris just falls on top of the plastic underliner. Next time you change your oil, just remove the underliner completely and clean it off.
