New Engine?
New Engine?
Well, two days ago my car overheated. Infiniti Roadside service came to my house to pic up the car to bring it back to the dealership. They called me today and told me the engine needs replacement. That means I will have a complete new motor. What components are included with the motor? I.e. Exhaust Manifold, New Cats. Etc.?
WTF... do they have any idea what exactly caused the overheating?
Did they find a leak or anything?
Okay I found it.

By the way, the car is still under warranty.

Okay, so 2 questions now...
1) What was the cause?
2) What does the new motor go for?
The Service manager indicated that I may have been a relay for the fan not working. Before the car started to overheat, the temperature gauge started to fluctuate up and down. Like the car was coming from a cold start and then maxing out and then settling to the normal temperature range.

havent done a v36 engine, but on the v35's with oil consumption, we install long block assemblies. this includes: block, pistons, rods, crank, cams... you basically have a big piece of bare aluminum.
cylinder head - new spark plugs (sweet!) and valve covers. does not include variable intake solenoids.
the front cover is sealed. new water pump, timing chain and tensioners. harmonic balancer (crank pulley) not included.
oil pan is torqued. block is dry, no oil or coolant. new oil filter included.
basically everything on the old engine that can be unbolted will be reused. this means all accessories, pulleys, belts, manifolds, plenums, injectors, wiring harness, sensors, actuators, etc will be original. when you think of engine "internals" they will all be new.

Nothing was said about the BullyDog. I don't think the BullyDog could've caused the engine to overheat. I called BullyDog to confirm and also find out what is managed under the BullyDog Maps and the tech said it was only managing air/fuel ratios, timings, Idle, and custom settings that we can tweak.
I would definately drive it into the ground (dont sell it for a long time) after you get the new engine, im not sure if that shows up on carfax but i remember hearing that it devalues your car signifigantly.
It does not show up on a carfax report unless this is a new facet Carfax has just added. I could see if the potential buyer asked for a maintenance records, but other than that I don't see how they would know the engine was replace. After replacing the tranny on my TL-S multiple times, I was still able to sell for its value so I don't see why a new engine would devalue a car. I guess mileage on the ticker versus actual mileage on the motor would not match up...
