Dry Performance Air Filters
Dry Performance Air Filters
I installed new stock air filters when I bought my car but it's getting time for a change. What is the general consensus for dry performance filters. I don't want to get involved with the wash and oil job, just a drop and discard deal.
Thanks..

Well, after a minimum amount of research, I think I'll go with a pair of K&Ns because they seem to be a fairly wide choice and I can get a deal on them through my local jobber. Does anyone have an opinion that I should not use those?

Well, I went with the dry because I recall an issue on my friend's Altima (06), where the MAF sensor got messed up and needed to be replaced due to oil residue getting on it from his K&N. Both dealer and his "mechanic" confirmed this.
Now, I don't know how accurate this is, but I figured to play it safe, the G also being a Nissan product, I try to avoid giving myself issues if I can. I do however use K&N on my Camry, and haven't had any issues.

I went with the dry since It seems less chance to screw up. LOL As you said maybe little too much oil, etc. I just did not like the idea topay for filters all the time.

I've just bought K&Ns but haven't installed them yet.
You will mess up your MAF if you over oil the filter and don't let it dry.
I've used K&N on my Audi S3 for 5 years and no problems at all, although my bro used it on his Golf and at one point he did have a problem because he over oiled the filter and didn't leave it to dry.
I'd just make sure to not over oil it and make sure it's dry and you should have no problems at all.

Had K&N's forever. After I clean and oil I let it sit in the sun all day to dry real good. No problems. I only do mine every other year. In between just take out and tap on ground to clean abit.

I used the Amsoil EaA dry nanofiber filter on my 1st gen & loved it.
But, it doesn't look like the make a 2nd gen filter yet.
..I'd definite use one again if available.

^Can't complain, they've been in for around 10k kms. I won't even try to estimate or describe any gains as they're miniscule at best, but I will say it felt a bit "peppier" when I first put them in. Now I just got used to it.
