Unhappy 2007 g35x blown motor

So my step dad was on his way to a meeting last week and his motor starts making a wierd sound. As he comes up to a stop light the car dies. Oddly he was 20 miles from the dealership where he bought it which is a state over from where he lives. so it is towed there and he gets a rental.

first diagnoses are not good, mechanic says it might need a new motor. a couple days go by and the dealer calls back says that the motor is no good and that the coolant and oil had mixed in the engine, personally i'm quite sure this isn't just as simple as a headgasket, but he didn't go into depth with what was the issue with me, he's not mechanically inclined.

the dealer says they will put together paperwork with all the history of the car. It was completely dealer serviced with all work up to date and none needed. they send out the information to infiniti and when they get back the news isn't good at all. his warranty recently expired ( 100k on car ) and the company is willing to give him $5000 trade in on the car and that's it.

this is quite a bummer to him as he paid cash ( ~36,000 ) in full upfront for the car in 2007. he researches everything in depth on any major purchases he makes and had found nothing bad about the g35x. he previously had driven an 89 jetta to 350,000mi and a 01.5 passat to 220,000 before getting the g35x. so needless to say he was expecting the car to last more than a measly 100,000 miles.

the dealer was willing to give him 5000 for trade in or wanted to charge 13,000 for a new motor and installation. 10k for motor 3k for labor. his thing is he already spent near 40k on the car and 13k just doesnt seem worth it for a car that has 100k on quite a few of the parts.

he found a new car he wants ( lexus es350 ), and doesn't want to get another infiniti, so may not even get the 5000 at the dealer for the car.

so im here to help hopefully, i looked up wrecked cars and figure you could get a deal on a low mileage engine and do a swap, so to someone somewhere this is worth something. i posted a listing in my area on craigslist asking $10,000 for the car. the $10k would be a whole lot better than the $5k and another $40k check written out. and it would be worth it to whoever bought it, i believe

the listing is here: http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/1968570679.html for anyone interested

but overall i just wanted to share his story with you guys and get the link out on the sale ( can't post in classifieds )

if you guys have any suggestions or tips or think the price is crazy i'd like to know, i'm trying to help him get the most out of the car and he's talking to me about parting the car and i just advised him that there probably isn't too much of a demand for parts on the car because they are still new and most of them are not going to have issues and as a whole it would be much easier to sell the car as a whole. and seeing as i'm his step son and work on cars myself, i'd get the part out duties

some more info on the car
- near perfect condition ( some chips on the extremely cheap paint on the front clip )
- great interior
- adult owned
- all records available, up to date on services
- detailed by myself and is in great condition

the car is at the dealer in maine for a little bit and we're just trying to see if we can get immediate interest on the vehicle

and he is really bummed out that the car didn't last longer, i know that he really did like the car, aside from the cheap paint

the thing that really sucks is the mechanic said it was clearly an engine defect and that there is no reason this should happen to one of these cars, then the company says sorry we forget about you after 70k...then the dealers offer was almost insulting

definitely sucks, i don't have that kind of money, but i can only imagine what throwing away near 40,000$ feels like

and we're not attacking infiniti, it was a great car with minimal complaints, just should have lasted longer, plain and simple.

I would get a used engine from a junk yard and swap it out and keep on driving it.. But its really weird tho, these engines should last 300k easy, well that's for the older gens but still.

that's not a bad idea and probably what i would do if it were my car, but he would have to pay someone to do it which gets expensive

I agree with 04G35NYC. If you can get it swapped it will still be cheaper then another car. My car is an '06 with almost 135K running strong *knock on wood*. Goodluck, and sorry to hear.

I think you can have your current engine rebuilt and it should be like new again, but I'm not sure though someone with more knowledge would have to help out to. If this does not work the only other option is to swap it out with another motor from a junk car.

This could be a project car. Get a TT set u on it. Build the engine from top to all the way down.
