Auto tranny manual mode
Auto tranny manual mode
Hello all. New to the thread. Recently purchased 07 G35S, 47K miles. Definitely saw a big difference in performance over my 07 328i. What I am finding is that while in manual mode, the shifting is not crisp at all. When shifting from gear to gear, there seems to be a delay from when I shift to when the tranny actually shifts... While in full auto mode, tranny seems to shift fine. I have read in other threads about the hard shifting and I do feel that as well, but am conerned about the shifting performance in manual mode. It is to the point where I don't use manual mode at all since the shifting is so delayed. Any ideas?? I will be taking it to the dealer soon, but figured I'd see if anyone has experienced this.
Thanks
Steve

The grounding kit will help some, but unfortunately the G is just a slow shifting car. You can purchase a transgo kit for your transmission that increases shift speed as well. I've had my G for 2 years now and I thought I would get used to the slow shifting but I still haven't. The shift from 1st to 2nd appears to be the slowest to shift in manual mode. I've noticed that during WOT the car will actually shift from 1st to 2nd faster in the auto mode.
Thanks for the info. Makes me feel a littel better. Let me as a stupid question. When you shift the car in manual mode, do you back off the accelerator as you shift or not? I have driven many manual cars and want to make sure I am not doing something stupid. My instinct is to back off like you would with a real manual transmission....
You can't really compare manual shifting to full auto mode, because there's no way to feel a delay in the shift in full auto. In manual, there's a half-second delay when upshifting, and what seems to be a shorter delay when downshifting - normal. There's discussion that the grounding kit helps, but that wasn't my experience.
Note that if you floor it and downshift at the same time, the tranny will hesitate. The fastest way I've found is floor it, wait a second, and then shift - the engine is already spooling up and the tranny shifts normally.

yah. I've got a xS and find that either the manual shifting and the paddles are just about worthless for daily driving. I've gotta get to a track or somewhere I can open it up, and see if I can learn some appreciation for either/or.
Lately, I've just been leaving it in S mode. That seems to be a little more aggressive.
