I have same ticking im my 2007 g35s at around 1300 rpm and a mechanic just told me today at infiniti it was a gasket that had a leak (forget excactly which one)? and is causing a pressure drop related to the chain tensioner ??

The mechanic said he has seen this gasket leak before once in a while !

Maybe an exhaust leak somewhere? I have a tick like this as well and it sounds just like the header gasket that went in my silverado. As the motor warmed up, the metal expanded and closed off the leak. Not as loud as the silverado leak but it could be a hairline crack somewhere.

Hi all!

A ticking noise around 680-1300 rpm, only when warmed up. The ticking noise increases with rpm increase (till 1300rpm).
I've read about solenoid valve, but should it increase it's noise proportionally to rpm???

Thanks!

If the noise is coming from the back of the engine, closest to the passenger cabin, then it is most likely the solenoid purge valve. If you take the engine cover off you can listen to the noise more closely.

could be like mine ,.. the gasket that brings oil to Chain tensioner was leaking, thus chain was loose and bouncing around at around 1300rpm !

Gasket changed, chain tension back ,no more ticking !

Thanks!
I'll use a phonendoscope to detect.

Some say, changed oil from 5w-30 to 5w-40 and the noise disappeared.

Can you show me, at which tensioner was leakage (upper, lower)?
Thanks!

I cant see picture with my phone, but there is only 1 tensioner that works hydrolically
And it was the gaskets that bring oil to this tensioner.
If mechanics check oil pressure from under car it should be very low if gaskets are leaking .

I just noticed my car ticking in the past week or so. Since the oil is checked regularly (still waiting for it to start consuming oil now that I've passed 90,000) and that level is fine.

Like others, it appears to be coming from the rear of the engine. Poked around with the stethoscope and didn't find any obvious culprit.

Here's a pretty clear video of the sound from inside and outside the car:

I plan to talk to the Nissan parts guy about the gasket, but if any of you who have fixed it with that part can post the part number, that would be great!

Very different sound than mine. This is more like badly lubricated moving parts.
