My serpentine belt squeals like a ****...

as some of you know, my car is salvage with about 39k on it. When I bought the car, the guy said the car sometimes squeals when the AC is kicked on. I never had any issues for about 2 months even with the AC on. Recently, the car will squeal when first on and even when warmed up. AC on or off doesn't matter. I applied some belt coditioner to prevent squealing and the car started to squeal like crazy, but after driving for a while it did calm down, but it still does squeal.

The belt seems fine. No pulley seems bent or wobbly. So what gives? I was thinking about changing the belt. Does anybody have a DIY for the belt?

I had the dealer replace my serpentine belt under warranty around 40k miles because it started squeaking. The dealer said that my tensioner was bad and caused the belt to shred. The squealing noise means that your belt is going bad. Get it checked and replaced.

I changed both to gatorbacks and one of those two squeal on a cold start for about 10 secs. Don't know if its cause its too tight or too loose. I can't tell cause I can't lift or find anyone to lift my car

Buddy recommended and insisted that I spray some type of belt grease.

So I found this DIY...its from a 350z, but same system as ours. Basically for any VQ35HR engines. I need to purchase a 1/2 inch breaker bar.

Its easy takes about 15 mins. Get under there loose the tensioner and replace both belts at same time.

So my brother is bringing over the half inch breaker bar, but I just noticed that my car is missing the plastic cover that goes right under and behind the bumper, Which prevents stuff from splashing up. That may be the problem. Anybody know where I can pick one up other than the stealer, the part number?

Cheaper online. Or you can get a aluminum one that looks nicer if you have some money laying around.

Heres a link to plastic for 07-08 dont know what year you have

the first link did not have any...only mud guards.

I'll give rick a call, found the number online. Let's see what price he can get me.

So changed the belt out. I used a serpentine belt tool from Kragen auto parts because my brother forgot to bring the breaker bar and the breaker bar at kragen was pretty thick so I went with the serpentine tool which worked like a charm. Probably didn't even need to change the belt because it looked to be in perfect shape and I bet the problem the whole time was the engine splash guard. Will order that as well in a couple days once I located the lowest price.

a missing splash guard / undertray won't cause prolonged belt squeal.

I guess that's good to hear because I felt like I changed it for no reason afte the fact. Why would you say that it wouldn't make a difference though...I would think water, debris shooting up in that area would cause squealing. The old belt looked to be in near perfect condition.

Kool... you did your own?
Is it as easy as the write states? I thought about doing mine (it's due) but once I got a good look at it, I was concerned about being able to get my big hands down in to every pulley position. I'd hate to pull the belt and not be able to put the new one on.

The dealer wants $185 for the install. I'd love to do it myself it it's this easy.

What did you remove to have plenty of room to move about?
