Getting an AUTO out of part after startup?

I have an AUTO 2007 Sedan... at least half the time when I try to go from park to reverse/drive the shifter seems "locked". Seems like I have to pump the brake 2 or 3 times, then try again and it will finally shift out of park. Is this normal? Anyone else with this problem?

I noticed that too, I just let go off the brake and press it back and I am set. 2 to 3 times sounds like too much!

I don't think 07 coupes have Push On Start Button. Whatever you call it. To explain exactly what I mean getting stuck. Lets say I turn on the car, as always we need to press the Brake to start it. Right after it turns on I try to put it on Drive but it's like on lock mode.
All I do, is release it and re press and it lets me put it on Drive. Anyone else?

It's normal. Even more often if you park on an incline since it feels as if the gears were resting on the P lock and once you shift out of P the car kinda goes back a hair.

Mine doesn't exhibit any weirdness. With the car off, I put my foot on the brake and hit the start button. I keep my foot on the brake, and shift into reverse without any problems.

lol i think this information isn't relative to people who browse this part of the forum (2nd gen sedan) but thanks for sharing....

OP: It happens to me all the time, I don't think incline has anything to do with it because it happens in my garage where it is perfectly level. I just have to re-apply the brake and and moves freely. Funny because I've only had my car a month and it happens to me quite frequently. I used to have an IS350 Lexus and in that car there's no button on the gearshift so I just thought it was me getting used to pressing the button on the shift ****

I had a similar problem on my previous car - problem turned out to be a faulty brake light switch. Its a little switch that sits above the brake pedal and activates the brake lights. The auto shift lock also gets its signal from this switch.

When you experience this problem again, have someone stand behind the car and check if your brake lights are working. If they are not working the switch is faulty. Note this also means your brake lights are not working when you are driving or they are working intermittently.

This usually happens to me about once a week. I just have take my finger of the button and try again. It usually takes less then 3 times. In my case, I don't think it is related to the brake switch since I don't have to take my foot off the brakes.

its cause the car is being held by the trans in park, try putting the ebrake when you stop right before you put it in P = park so that it stays in place by the brake and not the trans
